@ampere: Thank you for giving me the directions! Due to the road widening work on NH4, it appears that the stretch from BLR to Kolar is pretty bad. I drive an Indica Vista and the suspension is'nt too high. I thought I'd take this NH 219 route instead.

Anyone driven from BLR to Kolar on NH4 recently? Please share your experience.

But that too big a detour. Look at BLR-Tirpuathi thread for by-passing Blr-Kolar.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...e-help-11.html

High Level Summary:

If you stay in North Bangalore: Use what Addy suggested.

Blr-Devanhalli-Siddhaghatta-Chintamani-Madnapalle-Pileru-Tirupathi

Yelahanka, Bengaluru, Karnataka to Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh - Google Maps

If you stay in South Bangalore;

You can use the Sarjapur-Bagalur-Malur-Kolar bypass. Road is very good but, very bad patch while crossing sarjapur and two rough patches between Bagalur and Malur

Outer Ring Rd to Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh - Google Maps

Once you hit Kolar by-pass on NH4, after its fine all the way to Chitoor/Tirupathi and then its standard route.

@ampere: THANK YOU and THANK YOU for guiding me to this eye-opener!!

I'm definitely leaning towards this route compared to Krishnagiri route. Anyone travelled on the above stretch recently? I'm planning to drive on Dec 23. Any feedback is much appreciated!!

I think all your queries would already have been answered in the Blr-Tirupathi thread (link that I provided before).

Hi Friends, request your valuable advise and guidance on the follwoing:

I am planning a trip from Hyderbad to Kuppam . I am planning to travel in my Scorpio with my family . it will be a early morning start from hyderabad ( 4.00 AM) 1n 4 - 5 days time.

My planned route is

Hyderabd - Anantapur on NH-7 ( I am sure about the excellence of this stretch)
Anantapur - Palamaneru on NH-205 (I am not aware of the road conditions)
Palamaneru - Kuppam on NH-219 ( I am not aware of the road conditions)

Gurus advise plese . Is there any other better alternate route ? Any other precautions that are to be taken on my planned route ? the road conditions of NH205 & NH219. Suggestions on the travel duration and break / rest points on the route.

Thanks a ton in advance,
NH

That is the best possible route. Road conditions are also fantastic.
Its just that once you are on NH205, facilities are very poor.

You may find some decent hotel only either at Kadiri or Madanapalle or Palamaner.
(I am not aware of any though). Also note I would not advise NH219 and NH205 for night drives.

Thanks ampere. Noted your advise on avoiding the night drive on NH 205 and NH 219. I am bit uncomfortble with night drives on undvided roads. Thats the reason i am planning to start early from Hyd. I will also plan for an early start on my return journey.

Thanks once again.

NH

My folks are traveling from CBE to Ahobilam. What has to be done from Krishnagiri?

I see two options.

1)Proceed to Vellore in 4 lane, take a left to chittor, then Rayachoti, Cuddapah.

2)Take left after Krishnagiri- Kuppam, V-Kota-Palamaner-Rayachoti(http://goo.gl/maps/Sar3w.

I know 2 is shorter, but wary of road conditions between Palamaner and Rayachoti.

@Ramzsys,

Both the options are good. Nh219 is actually very good but a bit desolate.
I think there is a hotel at Venkatagiri Kota too.

But I would suggest the Vellore option.

- 4-lane road, which is very good in spite of diversions.
- You can potentially get stuck behind heavy trucks from Palamaner to Chitoor on a 2-lane road
- For the fun of taking a new road, Nh219 is nice.
- You get decent eating joints on NH4 too. So from that point its even.
