Default Bangalore to Hoggenakkal on 10th July '10?

I and family have decided to have a trip to Hoggenakkal this month on 10th. We stay in Bangalore

I have some queries regarding this, as this is my first long trip out of Karnataka.

1. Is July a good time to visit ?
2. Route

I plan to take (courtsey Google maps)

1. the Silk broad > Electronic city > Bommasandra > take right to Anekal -> Then to SH37 to Anchety Penegram road to Penegurum > to Hoggenakkal via SH60

OR

2. Bommasandra > Attibelle > Hosur > Right turn (and first left) to SH17 > Now travel on this hoghway for about 80 kms and turn right at junction with SH60 and reach hogenakkal

Which route is a good route? I know ruote 2 is like 24 kms more but it seems its a better road? Is it really so?

3. What are other things i should keep in mind?

Thanks is advance!

Best would be to go till Hosur and then take the Anchetti turn.
You will need to take the first right at Hosur (the diversion one takes to hit the muncipal office). Continue through bus-depot, railway and you are on the Denkanikottai main road, would take you to Anchetti.

I have seen lot of trucks on the Anekal main road as primarily they take the road to go Jigani industrial estate.

But for the newness you may try the road!

I went to hogenakkal yesterday, my 4th time.
Went till Dharmapuri on 4-lane and then turn right to reach destination in 45 kms. This is a slightly longer route, but i like the time i save and the peace of mind that 4-lane offers. 1.5 hours from silk-board to dharmapuri, and another max 1 hour from there.

Is this right time? totally not. water level is low. The coracle guys are not taking to the main falls. the ride is short and not so good as it is post monsoon, till winter. very very surprisingly very few number of coracle guys this time. so almost 0 scope of bargaining. they would not keep following you desperately, it is you who would be be desperate to take their services.
Place is filled with drunkards and some eve-teasers too.
Give it a miss if you can. plan post monsoon.

Edit : if you want the fun of flying on good 2-lane roads, you can take hosur-palacode-pennagram route too.

I was thinking of a Kanakpur-Anchetti-Mecheri-Metur visit, just for the drive!
Just go past Hoggenakkal.

If it is cloudy or raining then go for the drive Other-wise heat will kill your fun.

1. My in-laws have come and they would be here till July end. So I have to plan it by this month. It is totally a no-no to go at this time. The word of drunkards and eve-teasers is making this a dampner. Should I not go at all or give it a try?

2. Will it be really very hot? I have a 2.5 yr kid with me.

3. The route in mind is bit clear now. Either via

a. Hosur > Krishnagiri > Dharampuri
or
b. Hosur > Denkanikottai > Pennagram

Route a is shorter and route b is better.

Thanks for the earlier comments. More Comments please?

Instead plan a longer drive all the way till Mettur. Visit the dam and come back.
Distances would be in the range of 200Km+ one way.

Thanks for the input.

How about SivaSamudram? Is it also as far as Mettur?

I want to limit my travel to about 150 kms x2 in a day.

Distance would be less than 150 km. You can go and come back the same day.
You should then also be able to cover Somnathpura the same day.

Road condition though may not be all that great.
