| I have driven several times on NH 205 from Anantapur to Madanapalle (which is about 20 kms beyond Horsely Hills). This road is in very good condition. It passes through sparsely populated area, so there is not much traffic and the drive is enjoyable. Nice scenery too. Caution: There are a few steep bends which you have to watch out for. After driving on NH 7 from Hyderabad, one has to be a little more attentive on this 'undivided' old fashioned national highway! A Sumo went off the road a few minutes before us on one such curve last month. You have to go through Anantapur town to enter NH 205, as the byepass is on the other (Bangalore) end and it is not worth the extra distance. When you reach Anantapur, you will notice a huge (ISKON) temple shaped like a chariot on your left. Go past this temple, and take a left into the town - you will cross an overbridge and then you will reach Saptagiri Circle. Go straight and take the next right. In case of doubt, ask for Kadiri Road, or the Krishnadevaraya University (the Univ campus is on NH 205). From Anantapur it will take you about three hours to the base of Horsely Hills and another 30 minutes or so to climb up. Lots of level crossings on this road - fortunately, there is only one pair of passenger trains as of now on this track, so the crossings are usually open. I take about 9 hours to reach Mulakalacheruvu from Hyderabad on my Tata Indigo. Horsely hills is about 20 kms beyond Mulakalacheruvu. Not sure how good the APTDC resort is now. I heard that during the past few years, the maintenance of these resorts has not been very good. Horsely Hills is literally a 'one horse town' - there is nothing there! The only decent hotel is in the APTDC resort. Apart from this, there are only a couple of tea stalls -- one or two serve dosas in the morning. Most tourists do a day trip to Horsely. If you do not mind walking (on the single road that leads down) and curling up with a good book, you can enjoy Horsely. Does get a bit chilly in the evenings - carry your sweaters. Talakona falls is closer to Tirupati - may be three hours drive from Horsely. From Madanapalle you have to take the Tirupati road and I think there is a junction leading off to the left after you cross Piler. |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | A fundamental question: Do you guys think its worth driving all the way from Hyd to Horseley hills? I thought its more like a weekend jaunt. But driving 500Km all the way? Just a thought. But yes driving is fun! |

| You do raise a good point there, one of the reasons i did not go. But, might go just to enjoy the drive and calm/silence the place might have to offer. In fact, it could be this weekend. ![]() |

| Would suggest that you make the confimed bookings at APTDC office at Basheerbagh(Opp. Police Control Room) before proceeding. This is a MUST do activity. Road to Horseley Hills is excellent..you will love the drive and find a lot of calm and silence there. Do let me know if you need any further information. |

This one is the central office for APTDC and the one behind lumbini park is a smaller office called as the Budha Purnima office or something. | |
