Slowdown has affected Mines too and Mine lorries are almost stopped now, hardly any moment beacuse China has stopped importing ores. Road repair work is started in most of the affected areas, lets hope in couple of months things will be back normal.

Ravi.

Well i travelled on the Mangalore madikeri route and here are my observations.
Started from the airport and the roads in MLR are dug up like everywhere. I didnt find even one stretch other than MG rd Mlr whr construction aint happening.

Route taken to Madikeri was
Manglr- Kasargod-Jalsoor-Sullia-Sampaje-Madikeri

This route is longer by 20 kms but it saves time and strain on changing gears and hitting potholes. The scenary is also beautiful and road all the way to jalsoor is brilliant.

For people coming from sullia you will have to take a left at a place where there is a checkpost.
For people going from kasargod please take a left after kasargod and you could ask for directions thr and the boards are clearly written
I would suggest this route to anyone planning on mlr-coorg-blr

aka...,This is slightly offtopic..anyways you can try Turtle bay beach resort...am not sure of home stay....you will find many in Sakelshpura..

Comin back to roads, just back from mlore yesterday and i must say its getting bad....shiradi has deteriorated further... gundya to mlore lots of bad stretches...

Also one can note that traveling on a sunday esp during the second half can be painful...lotssssss of traffic...

Post Bengalooru - Kudremukh - Udupi

Hi,

I am driving to Udupi through Kudremukh next weekend. How are the road conditions from Balehonnur to Kudremukh? I believe that this route is better than going through Mudigere. And how are the roads from Kudremukh to Udupi?

Thanks,
NMA

@nma83, the road conditions are very good on this route throughout except for a bad patch of road for about 20km after Balehonnur. Nothing very alarming though. The road otherwise is excellent and also the stretch from Kudremukh to Udupi is a delight. The route will be Bangalore-Hassan-Belur-Chikmagalur-Balehonnur-Kalasa-Kudremukha-Karkala-Udupi. However, the route through Mudigere helps save you around 40-50 km.

NMA,

Drove to Udupi last weekend on kalasa - kudremukh road.

Road conditions -

Bangalore - kunigal - hassan : good, 4 laning work on.

Hassan - Belur - Chickmagalur - excellent ( 1km of bad stretch near hiremagalur )

Chickmagalur - Vastare - 8 km - ( NH 13 ) - rough

Vastare - Aldur : good

Aldur - Balehonnur : good with occasional rough patches especially after coffee estate ghat

Do not enter balehonnur - turn left soon after crossing river bridge - 13 km to magundi - single lane rough road.

Magundi - kalasa - Kudremukh - Bajagoli - Karkala - Udupi : approx - 125km : excellent roads.

Time taken ( without breaks ) - 8.5 hours.

rgds,
Rao

Post Sringeri to Udupi

This will be a 3-day trip starting from Bengalooru Dec 5th early morning and returning back by 7th night. The new addition to the plan is Sringeri.
The current itinerary is:
5th early morning (5am maybe) - Leave Bengalooru.
5th evening - Reach Sringeri, how much time would it take? Stay there.
6th morning - Leave to Udupi either through Agumbe or Kudremukh. What are the road conditions through Agumbe, and which route would be preferrable?
6th afternoon - Reach Udupi, again what would be time taken?
There is a marriage to attend there.
7th afternoon - Leave Udupi.

How does the above plan look?

Thanks,
NMA

NMA, Please do not drive sringeri to Udupi through Kudremukh. The road from sringeri to SK border ( 30 kms ) is very bad - single road with 1 foot drops on either side !!

Instead, drive to agumbe, down the ghats and to udupi through someshwara and hebri.

On way back, you can drive through karkala, Kudremukh and kalasa.

@rao: Thanks for the information. But I believe the road from Balehonnur to Sringeri is still good. Is this true?

Thanks,
NMA

NMA,

Bangalore to Sringeri - approx 320 kms - good roads throughout except for 8 kms from C'lur to Vastare. Balehonnur to Sringeri via Jayapura ( 35 kms ) is also good - smooth, broad, winding roads. Normal driving with breaks should take you there in 6.5 to 7 hours.

Note - Sringeri temple is closed in the afternoon - opens only at 5 pm.

Sringeri - agumbe - someshwara - Hebri - udupi : 77 kms - doable in 2 hours - single road, good. Agumbe ghat - loose / broken road slabs - not major.

Return : Udupi - Karkala - Kudremukh - Kalasa - Balehonnur - C'lur - Hassan - Bangalore - 435 kms is doable in 9 - 9.5 hours ( with breaks ).
It is advisable to reach c'lur before dusk.

Regards,
Rao
