| Hi, I have to travel from Chennai to Trichy and then to Coimbatore and get back to Chennai. I know the Chennai Trichy route is very good. I have heard that the Trichy - Karur - Coimbatore road is in a shambles because of the 4L work. Can anyone let me know the state of the road now, the route to take to Coimbatore from Trichy and also the best route to get back to Chennai from Coimbatore. |

But yes NH67 in general is not good. The other options is to drive to Erode/Bhavani from Karur and take the 47. But that means you face the horrible Avinashi section. This way or that, you will face music. Another option is to go to Aravakurichi from Karur on NH7 and then to Dharapuram. From Dharapuram hit 67 at Palladam. Not much of a detour, but provides SH of TN, which should be in good condition. Last edited by ampere : 30th November 2010 at 18:23.

Trichy-Coimbatore through Karur is really bad till Karur. Here is an alternative route: Trichy-Thogaimalai-Palayam-Karur and then hop on to NH67 from Karur. NH67 from Karur is a broad good road with additional lanes for 2 wheelers. Tiruchchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India to Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India - Google Maps This Thogaimalai-Palayam route is also very good 2 laned road with minimal traffic. Although it will be about 15-20km more than the regular NH67, it is very much worth it. I haven't traveled on this after the last 2 weeks of rain havoc, but considering the state of the road when I traveled last, it should not have deteriorated. Coimbatore-Chennai is best done through the 4 laned Salem-Krishnagiri-Vellore route. Last edited by luvurride : 30th November 2010 at 19:50.

| Friends, I also saw another route. Trichy - Musiri- Namakkal - Tiruchengode - Erode - Coimbatore.. Does anyone have any idea about the status of this route? |

Namakkal-Erode is decent. But better take the Palayam route to Karur as you can't go wrong with the Karur-CBE stretch.

| Any updates on the newly developed NH from Karur to Trichy? or is still under de-tour with on-going construction. I would prefer "Palayam- Thogaimalai" route, though narrow/small, reasonably good tarmac with winding road. Any updates on new Highway, would be appreciated. Travelling to Trichy on 15/5. cheers Vel |

| Small Update after my recent trip. When travelling from Coimbatore to Trichy, I took the Palayam/Thogaimalai route to Trichy. On my return, I used the newly under-construction highway. The road is bad until 20km from Trichy(up to Pattuvathalai); after this place the road is a smooth tarmac enjoyable drive. Toll is yet to be started. Only issue was getting through Trichy city traffic. vel |

- So did you cut NH7 at Aravakurichi and continue to Dharapuram and Palladam? - How is the route up to NH7? If it is any decent by TN standards then its a very good option - But as you said, a good Trichy bypass is really wanted. Going through the city is a pain. | Yes I crossed the NH7 & NH67 i.e.(If I take left I go to [pallayam & RHS to Karur), after few km I had to enter again in to Karur(Dindugal Bridge). Later the route was via velaikovil, kangayam, palladam, sulur etc. the regular one. As usual once we enter CJB city limits, it mad rush of local 2 wheelers & taxi... Route up to NH7 is good, except for the wrong users who drive opposite on the wrong side, with their head lights on, annoying me! Last edited by Velmurugan : 17th May 2013 at 20:11. |
