Default madman's query -- places to visit around Pune

-- what to do on 24th -26th long weekend ?

we are a group of 6: self ( only driver) ; wife, parents, 2 kids.

we need to go out for a day or two on the long weekend and have our regular workhorse Indigo coming back from service station on thursday.

Since i am the only person driving, wife and parents are not keen on driving long distances and are more interested in going to a nearby place. Catch is -- they also dont want to go to a run of the mill place like Matheran or Lonavla due to heavy rush in this weekend. That leaves with me very limited choices for going anywhere. Parents are in their late 60s and would not be able to climb or trek any distance either. Can anyone suggest what are the better options available with all these limitations at hand ?

TIA

Try Panhala. It's a nice place to relax & unwind, not too far from Pune (4.5 - 5 hours drive) and not very crowded (like Panchgani/M'shwar).

Cheers,
Vikram

dont try panhala at all. worst during winters. no greenary nothing to see at all. waste of time and fuel is crossing 280+280 kms.
belive me- its my native place.

best is go to Diveagar-shriwardhan, beach side. do bookings in advance. nice place to relax, just 150kms away from pune. alternately dapoli is also good.

There are many places around Pune in the vicinity of 2-3 hours. Below are some which come to my mind at a flash.

1) 2.5 hours- Junnar, Lenyadri, Nane Ghat Dam. (You can find some resorts/agri tourism resoirts near Junnar to stay).

2) 1 hour- Sinhagad, Panshet, Varasgaon (You can stay at Wildernest at Sinhagad foothils).

3) 1.5 hours - Tamhini Ghat (You can stay at GreenGate)

4) 4 hours - Bhimashankar (Stay at MTDC).

5) 5 hours - Aurangabad, Ajanta, Ellora, (You can stay at Aurangabad)

6) 3 hours - Kashid Beach, Alibaug (You can stay at Prakruti Resorts).
