Default Re: Hyderabad to Tirupati : Route Info

Hi all,
Long weekend and another trip time... This time to Tirumala to take advantage of direct darshan before my younger one turns 1yr on 26th Aug

After going through all the threads in the forum the plan is:
1. Fri: Start Fri afternoon from Gachibowli at 3:00pm.
2. Fri: Take Kurnool, Nandyal, Kadappa route. Overnight at Kadappa (if heavy rain/younger one troubles because of darkness, stay at Nandyal).
3. Sat: Reach Tirumala, checkin (booked long back a 2k cottage at Tirumala for Sat night), darshan etc.
4. Sun: Checkout and go to Vellore. Visit Golden Temple and drive to Chittoor. Stay overnight in Chittoor.
5. Mon: Start from Chitoor and come to Hyd by evening (take Rayachoti road to get to Kadapa, Nandyal, Kurnool)

Need suggestions as driving in my Scorpio with Wifey, 5 yr old and 11 month old in car seat:
1. Is the above route plan ok?
2. Acco/Dinner suggestions in Nandyal (backup), Kadappa or in between Nandyal and Kadappa for Fri night
3. Acco suggestions in Chittoor for Sun night.

Thanks for the help. As usual, promise to update the road conditions once back from the trip...

Can you start around 1PM from GachiBowli. You will be reaching Kurnool By 3.30PM-4PM. Kurnool Kadapa can be covered in 3 hours and Kadapa Tirupati in around 2.5 3 hours depending on your energy levels and your little one. HYD-TPTY is possible in 9 hours without over speeding. As for food, there is a Ghar Dhaba on your right just before Kurnool, an AP tourism place at Orvakal(Rock Garden) Just after Kurnool and a Harita rest just before Kadapa as sson as you cross the bridge. Otherwise you would need to head into Kurnool / Kadapa towns for food. There is no decent place in Nandyal.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will try to start by 2:00pm and make it to Tirupathi. However, as a backup, any hotel suggestions for overnight stay in Kadappa?

Thanks.

Reached Tirupathi yday night. The timings are

2:40pm started from home at gopanapall
3:10pm airport road jn
5:20 pm kurnool toll gate
6:00 pm kurnool crossed at checpost
9:10 pm kapadda bypass rd junction
12:05 tirupati busstand

Kurnool crossing was a pain.
The 4 rd construction work didn't cause any trouble
The road surface and condition was good.throughout
As earlier pointed out the speed breakers cab be measy but as i was expecting it didntt face too much trouble

Overall break time is around 30mins

After nandyal when it became dark, had trouble driving on a 2 rd highway in the night. Guess the 2x2 roads that have come to India since last 4 years or so pampered it took exactly 10 mins to recover and get into the effortless driving mode...

Took the Kadappa->Gooty road yesterday while coming back from Tirupathi to Hyd.

The Kadappa Gooty road has detiorated considerably (many potholes, rains have also done damage) and just not worth taking considering the good condition of the road from Kurnool to Gooty.

So for now the suggested route from Hyd to Tirupathi remains Kurnool-Nandyal-Kadappa-Rajampter (definitely the route via Gooty is best avoided).

May be should use the Anantpur/Kadiri/Madanapalle/Pileru option.
But I think its good day journey. But amazing road conditions.

Was on that route in Dec. But having driven in kurnool nandyal kapada rajampet route which is very good, the 100 km extra on anantpur route is not worth as per me..

Plus 1 to this view. Things would have been different if the Ananthapur to Tirupati route was 4-laned. In that case the extra 100 kms would not have mattered much.

I thought the traffic on NH18 (esp truck traffic) was very heavy.
I just read this on the forum (I have never driven).
Hence was suggesting the NH205 option, as it has hardly any traffic.

Please correct if that is a wrong assumption.

Not to my knowledge. I drove down in May 2009 and traffic was normal, not heavy. I am not sure if things have worsened after that.

The traffic was easily manageable. Don't recollect finding it heavy. Never had to slow down considerably to overtake etc...

I was at Kurnool Checkpost at 6pm and reached Kurnool ring road junction (near Harita) around 9:15pm. Never found the drive heavy/pain at all. The diversions because of the 4 road construction didn't impact the speed/increase the tiredness...

In Tirumala.
Took Kurnool, Nandyal, Kadappa, Rajampet, Tirupati route. Effortless driving all through out.
Narsingi 1210
Kurnool 1445 (20 minutes break for Kiddo)
Nandyal 1600 (1 hour food break)
Kadappa 1900
Tirupati 2100 (1 hour dinner break)
Tirumala 2245

Some places minor potholes but roads not bad at all. Humps (better to be called back breakers) after Rajampet are horrible.

Back in Hyderabad.
Extremely happy to get a good darshan of Lord Venkateshwara. (Sheegra Darshan - INR 300 per head + 3.5 Hours in queue with Kiddo)
Proud to say - I did not pay Bribe.

A note of caution while attempting to Bypass Renigunta while travelling Kadappa side. At a place called Karakampadi - 5Km ahead of Renigunta, we could take a right and bypass Renigunta directly to Tirupati. Please avoid this road. There is a railway crossing immediately after you take a right enroute to Tirupati.

Was stuck at this gate for 1 hr 15 minutes while on my way back - Thanks to courteous and law abiding Indian Drivers blocking both sides of the road and that too both the directions and frequenting goods trains carrying coal and empty wagons back. Had to take a fight with a Nano guy and stand in the middle of the road to stop him from blocking the entire traffic by guhsaofying his car in the opposite lane. Poor truckers also take this road to save some distance and bypass Renigunta town. They get stuck in the railway crossing since its extremely difficult to manoeuvre these double axle ones through the "S" shaped curve.

Please drive directly into Renigunta and then into Tirupati rather than attempting to save 5 to 8 Kms. Renigunta traffic (jams if any) is better than this railway crossing.

Regards

Are you referring to the following by-pass?

Unknown road to Unknown road - Google Maps
