Friends this is my first post here. I relocated to Mumbai from Chicago this week and am looking for a used car. I came across an OHC 2000 model Exi done 44,000 kms. It drives and looks very good. The dealer is asking for Rs 3,85,000. Please let me know what you guys think about it. Also are there some specific things that I should look out for. I will be driving it in Mumbai traffic. How is the fuel efficiency for the automatic? What about resale?

dude u need to pm nitrox on this..ul get him in the members list...he drives an old honda city type 1 automatic

Price should be between 3.25 to 3.50 for a 2000 AT.
Also the FE would be abt 8.5 to 9.5 in city with A/c.
Resale would not be a major issue as in India anything( or 95%) thats a Japanese model sells well.

Before buying the car, get the car checked at any authorised Workshop.
Look for previous service history if available.

Get the air-con checked thoroughly as the Carrier air-con is known to throw some problems.

Lastly please verify the entire paper work. Check that there is no loan pending on the car.

Also give the Lancer 1.8 a thought .Better VFM (for a used one) IMO

Thanks a ton XP and Dipen.
Xp - I guess I have to learn how to use the pm feature.
Dipen - Where can I buy an old Lancer. Are there any certified resellers?

No retailers are clean.
You cannot be totally clean to make a extra buck in the used car business.

As 1.8 Lancer has sold in limited numbers, it would be difficult to find one but definately possible.

Find one and then follow the suggested steps.
Happy shopping.

Bisabhi, thats a high price to pay for an automatic.Like dipen said, 3.20 to 3.4L depending on the condition.
All the used car dealers know that automatics are difficult to sell. So, haggle them and u might find a bargain :)

Is NItrox the same guy as Nitrous? If yes can you please let me know what are your thoughts on the OHC automatic? I plan to keep it atleast for the next 5 years.

Its also the other way around, if we are very particular about automatic OHC. The best thing is that we can say automatic is not in the list but if falls in the basket at better price bracket, we will consider.

wow in chennai a 2002 model OHC AT which has done about 45000kms is quoting about 4.15 lakhs!!!! anybody know any good cars in chennai cheaper than that?

I think 3.5 lakhs should be fine for a 2000 model OHC AT. You can get the car checked at a Honda dealer too. A friends boss recently picked up a 2002 OHC automatic ltd. edition for 4.2 lakhs run just 23,000 kms. The car is in mint condition. He bought it from Sai Service used cars.

i called up a few brokers and they all seem to have OHC ATs but want about 4.20 or so. i didnt know that Honda themselves will check the car to see whether its in good shape......
