Its quite obvious:

Swift is a 1.3 L Twin cam 16 valve engine producing 87 bhp and 11 KGM of Torque

Palio- 1.6 L Twin cam producing 100 Bhp and 14 KGM of torque

Hence looking at the engine capacity and power outputs not to mention the performance, the difference in FE is understandable.

The Palio engine is made more for power wheras the Swift is more of efficency.

Tempted to have a drive in Palio 1.6. I have read a lot of good things about palio 1.6 in this forum. What the cost difference between Palio 1.6 & Swift Zxi?

Good... So What "poles apart" here. 100BHP vs 87BHP becomes "poles apart" ( that too considering that 87 coming from a 1.3L engine).
In this forum we should put figure not superlative statement likes "Poles apart" and "way ahead".
How do you quntify "poles apart" and "way ahead".

yes "poles apart" is an over exaggerated term. But so what, thats what I felt when I drove the swift.Numbers dont tell you everything my friend. There are many out there who complain about poor initial pick up of the Swift. Its understood...the Swift is not a light weight car.The 1.3 L engine definitely has to work hard to lug around that weight. And look at the torque and BHP figures resp--
Palio 1.6 -14 kgm/ 137 NM @ 4250 rpm-- 100PS @ 5500 rpm
Swift 1.3 - 11 kgm/ 113 NM @ 4500 rpm -- 87 bhp(88-89PS) @ 6000 rpm.
I had a Palio 1.2 for two years and I realised that the 1.2 (1242 CC)engine which churns out 10.2 kgm of torque is just not enough for that heavy weight car.Other than that the car was brilliant.
Driveability is the key word and not horsepower.
So,if it was a Swift 1.6 vs Palio 1.6, I would'nt have used that term.but in the present scenario,I will still maintain that the two engines are poles apart and hence performance and Fuel efficiency cannot be compared.I dont want to start a debate or anything of that sort. Both cars are great and serve different purposes- one is an all rounder and the other is a performance oriented car.To each his own

Is that for the 1.6 with ABS and airbags?

I suppose it would be expensive compared to swift with ABS and Airbags.

I dont think the price quoted by BUSA is with ABS and Airbags, i am doubtful whether its available still or not?

Oh yeah swift will be cheaper but Palio is miles ahead in built as well as quality.

Palio 1.6 GTX. No doubt about that. I would have bought one instead of the Baleno, if there were any Fiat dealers in my town and if the Fiat- Tata tie-up had happened earlier. I drive my friend's GTX quite often and find it miles ahead of my Baleno as far as in-gear accleration and tight handling are concerned.

Hi Senthil,

Only one answer as somebody mentioned earlier,
If ur heart rules buy the Palio
If ur head rules buy the Swift
It really is a no brainer

hi devarshi, the palio 1.6 does not come with abs and airbags anymore.there is only one model and that is the 1.6 sport.when i bought it,the price was 5.13lakh on road for it.
i was comparing it with the swift zxi which has abs and airbags.the on-road price of that swift variant was 5.30lakh.(on road cochin prices for both)
yes,as many have told, the swift is for those whose head rules and the 1.6 palio is for those whose heart rules.
