Default Which GM car?

Dear Experts,

I will get a car from my company (GM) and obviously, it has to be a GM car.

Generally, I target for newer models (as they will have better resale value- generally). However, the Aveo has the following drawbacks (to me):
1. Doesn't look sophisticated inside- especially I hate those door locks which portrudes out next to the window.
2. Do not like to go for hatchback- but can negotiate (with myelf)

From above points, Optra would have been an automatic choice. But, since they are old models (?!), I should not suffer in resale value. I was also getting a rumour that the production is going to be stopped.

My other needs:
  • Average distance traveled per month= 1500 km
  • Mostly for city use- although sufficient part will be over highway
  • Self driven- only by me
I would welcome your comments- that's definitely going to help me decide.

Bye,

PS: I have a Zen (Dec'05) and quite satisifed with it. No plan to sell it off.

Then how come they're (car mags) talking about Optra with diesel option?

Also, as you're from the company..I would like to know how many Optras they're selling nowadays?

May not be a big help but you can go through my Optra review.

I'm not giving you the link. It's a good excersise for you to search threads as a newbie.

Depending on your grade, there has to be a certain price bracket. First let us know what that is.

Otherwise go for the Vectra buddy. No brainer

I don't think they're selling Vectra any more. I could be wrong though.

If people working for the manufacturers also depend on 'getting a rumour' about their own products, how qualified are we poor souls to advice you?

Say, how about a Tavera? I mean unless you are really hung up on a sedan or at least a 3-box car you may want to look into a diesel option. For highways with an average of 1500kms a month I guess that could be an option for you...

Wink

Thanks to all.

@Zappo: I can have a look at Tavera. But, will sure have a hard time in convincing my better half.

@Steeroid: I was expecting this comment anyway. Ok, to clarify I am a pure s/w guy. Have joined them for related work. So, not really familiar with their strategies/ current status et al.

@Mpower: Budget can be overcome by paying the difference from my pocket. So, I can afford a little amount.... Besides, the Opel series is completely stopped, I guess. Their website does not provide any link now for purchasing a new car!

@Rudra: I will go through your Optra review now. But my main worry was their continued support for Optra.

Bye for now.

According to me as of now good GM cars:

1. Optra
2. Tavera
3. Coming very soon Aveo UVA hatchback (It is supposed to have Aveo Sedan space inside.)

I feel they don't sel any cars under Opel brand. Hope this helps.

Ravi.

From their current portfolio, the Optra suits your needs the best. The 1.6 gives you fabulous VFM, and a whole lot of luxury for the money. Alternatively, if you want a poser....go ahead with the SRV (only because its GM giving the car to you).

I'd take the Optra Automatic with ACC.

I would say that in the current GM stable the only car even worth considering is the Optra. It's a decent, confortable car with good interiors & if you're not much of a driving enthusiast it'll suit you well. And also ever since they reduced the prices it's also become good value for money.

Yes, even I would recommend Optra, I had taken a ride in both Aveo and Optra. Optra was class ahead than Aveo. It was very spacious and has that luxury feel. And that 1.6 VGIS engine would be a fun driving it.
Go-ahead with Optra! Don't worry about resale price unless you are planning to sell it in next 2 - 3 years.
