Accord and Camry with 10+ kmpl? In Bangalore traffic. No way. Ruled out.

Look at the City:
It is just expensive to buy, but service costs are very reasonable.

If you dont mind a hatch, there is nothing better than the i20 AT/CRDi for your budget.
It is a much better car than the Verna provided you dont need the boot.
Better looking interiors, as much space, better looks, and more importantly, a much better platform which can handle the power, unlike the Verna.

I say that you should look at Corolla Altis 1.8 GL in the 2nd hand market. It's a toyota product, so there isn't any question of reliability and would fit your budget quite well.

You could even check out Skoda Laura l&K in the 2nd hand market. The features will drive you crazy but so will the maintenance if the car isn't maintained properly..

@ lamborghini
-- Unless for a SWift i donot want to go in for a hatch, i.e. I20. it should be a sedan
-- my understanding is Hondas are expensive to maintain , service and buy spares. someone told me that its cost 10k + to even out a scratch.
@ shreeps
I am around .

@ all
thanks for your inputs

Nah, not really unless you just rip your cars. In fact, Civics have lowest maintainence in that segment and so does Accord.

Remember, Honda/Toyota = Peace of mind

I am not sure whether you are following what's happening to Toyota in Europe and the U.S.A.; there are millions of owners who will say the exact opposite.

Although you might argue that it's not relevant for India, that doesn't hold much water, simply because Toyota can get away with it because of lax Indian laws.

Since I am Ok to wait for 3-5 months , is there any new car launch that I should wait for , say a new Elantra / Verna / Fiesta / Nissan ?

I want Team-BHPians suggestion / aid in selecting my car !
Based on your own test drives and perceptions, I would say that you have narrowed the list down to SX4, Honda City, Manza and the scorpio.

My vote would go for the Honda City (if you have the cash to buy it and maintain it ) or else it will be SX4 since thats a decent car at a great price.

In the upcoming cars, I really dont have an idea about Sedan launches before June 2010, sorry.

I would lease the car in my company's name. and 2nd hand cars would not qualify for that

If you extend yr budget by a lakh or lakh and a half. You can try cars like the Altis & Cruze.
Cedia is also a good car to drive.

Explore all yr options and TD all the cars. It might solve yr dilemma.

Hello all, for a good affordable sedan, would you guys recommend the Hyundai Accent Executive? I mean, the car comes with a host of features and at 5.94 lakhs OTR (Bangalore), I feel its a steal. How is spare part availability? Will the car be around for at least 5 years? I am too thinking of upgrading to an affordable sedan. The marketing person of Trident Hyundai (Sankey Road) stays in my apartment, so at least there is peace of mind i feel! Please reply.

@rjalihal: Dont get the Accent. It has a poor safety record, poor backseat and lackluster engines and FE. The car has been in the Indian market for over 10 years and is nearing the end of its lifetime.
If you are looking for an entry level sedan, look at the Dzire, Manza, pre-owned NHC, etc. They all offer many more features, with better technology, in a safer package.
However, quality might be a bit suspect in the Manza, though it is my pick for comfort and VFM.
