Default SX4 VXI vs Fiesta Petrol 1.4 ZXI

I have shortlisted the SX4 VXI and Fiesta Petrol 1.4 ZXI. The price points of both these cars are 7.35L and 7.31L OTR at Bangalore respectively. The offers being dished out are :-

Fiesta 1.4 Petrol ZXI - 11k worth of accesssories and Kenwood music system.
SX4 VXI - The same music system that comes on the SX4 ZXI.

The concern i have is whether fiesta is a VFM package. Being a 1.4. litre it is priced almost at the SX4 level. Though the fiesta is a better handler and could give better mileage.

Would help if fellow team-bhpians could help in resolving this dilemma.!!

Fiesta is a good drivers car, but when you check the VFM and maintenance, then you should go for SX4. Ford spare parts & maintenance are expensive compared to Maruti's product. Ford resale value is very less. You get more mileage in Fiesta 1.4 as this is under powered when compared with SX4 1.6

Maruti over Ford anyday. It will be a much better deal in the long run in terms of running costs and resale value.

Sorry ford, but its SX4 for me. More VFM, latest design and space.

If you really want driving pleasure pick 1.6 Fiesta.

SX4 hands down and the reasons are well known.

Infact SX4 is the best car in this segment at the moment, especially with very attractive pricing by MUL.

Jaggu bhai !!

I dont think SX4 will let down any driving enthusiast either. Infact with that high GC it can be more practical on our potholed roads, only if you can live with the slight instability bcoz of high GC.

And SX4 will give the elevated feel of an SUV

Thanks a ton for the feedback. I took the SX4 again for a TD today and found the engine a bit coarse and noisy. The salesperson said that since this was a demo car and has been "abused" the car felt a different from how it would have been. How true is that to reality?

I own an SX4, a VXi at that. You can't figure if the engine is running or off when standing still - it really is that smooth. Engine noise is very low until abt 2.5K and it's quite a rev after that - especially after 3.5K. I've kinda starting to like the rev... it isn't coarse by any standards.

About the comparison - well, I honestly don't see any. SX4's engine is a rocker, and you've got Maruti's amazing A.S.S, cheap spares, and resale possibilities. Fiesta might be history say 5-10 years later, but you could still sell SX4s. And more, Ford is known for ripping off customers. Verna might be quite a comparison - as I'm told. Still, I'd settle for Maruti and peace of mind.

When I took the test drive, I cranked the engine again when it was running. Even if I rev I could not find out using the engine sound, but with the RPM meter only I came to know that the engine was running.

If you are not in a hurry and can wait a few months, may I suggest you wait for the SX4 DDiS

My budget is around 7 lakhs (in fact am stretching it by around 40K here). Being a diesel engine, I think it might not fit my budget. DDiS might start at 8 Lakhs?

One thing, Calvin - The SX4 as a whole package is a car comparable to the Fiesta 1.6, so it easily brushes aside the 1.4L version.
In a head to head, the SX4 has more power, more space, better ground clearance, better A.S. service, and fresher looks. The Fiesta on the other hand is a better handler (it is a CAR, remember? unlike the SX4 whose origins lie in a crossover SUV) and is more frugal as well.
Hope that helps.

Hi calvinkrishy vbmenu_register("postmenu_522317", true); ,

There was a comparision done in bsmotoring magazine July 2007 issue (i read - couple of weeks back) between SX4 and Ford Fiesta Petrol. Probably, you can refer to that edition to decide your car.

The author of that article said Fiesta is a driver's car amd SX4 is a complete package.

Jus check it out - might be useful for you
