Hey buddy,
go for the lancer.
You should get a 2004 model within your budget.
The car is amazing to drive, quite comfortable, looks amazing, gives a good FE and you would get a newer lancer than a OHC.
If i had to chose between these two, i would go get the Lancer anyday.

manjo buddy trust me in terms of sheer driving pleasure you cant go wrong with OHC. Lancer is an excellent car in its own terms but it just cant match up with the addictive, refined and revvy engine of OHC.
Just make sure that you go for 1.5 exi model which is a good package

Actually, apart from the engine and perhaps reliability (IMHO the lancer is equally reliable) the lancer is a much better car than the OHC.
It may be a bit underpowered but the gearbox is the best one out there, it's handling can kick an OHC's A$$ and if one can overlook the few additional horses of the OHC, the lancer is indeed a better driver's car.

a well maintained 2000 slxi model with around 80+km will cost you around 2.10 to 2.20 in mumbai from a dealer, i just sold my stock lancer slxi with stock music set up for 1.90 to a dealer could have gotten more but din't have time to sit down and deal with other people, gave it to the first person who came by. the car is not expensive to maintain unless you are driving a 800 then yes it is! things you need to check before buying a lancer

(1) front suspension - loud thumping sound over poth holes - kit needs to be changed -cost max 5 k
(2) clunking sound from front end- check cv joints
(3) rear power windows tend to jam
also check with hm if they will still continue to service the lancer as they are stoping production of the lancer

Looks - Lancer
Juice and torque - Baleno

Lancers are easier to find.
Baleno trust me takes a lot of patience to find a good vehicle for a good price.

Lancer is still one of my most fav cars from the Indian scene. If your not after 1/4 mile records then eyes closed this is the car for you.

Comfort / Build / Looks (even though it is over a decade old design).

Also future option for MIVEC

I think I have finalised on a Lancer SFXi.
Actually was much leaned over one from the beginning itself but none backed me.
Now as i have so many hands on the shoulder will surely go for the same. I will wait till i get a good piece.
I am looking for a 2003/2004 model; mileage below 50K; maintained ok.

Default Budget 3 Lakh! Any 2nd hand sedan for that price?

Hi All,
One of my friend is looking for 2nd hand car in the range of 3 Lakh. Checked a few esteems till now. 2005 Esteem VXi seems to be available for around 3.05L. How is the maintenance cost of Esteem? Not very high I suppose and probably the lowest in that segment, am I right?
How is the option of going for Ford Ikon flair or Hyundai Accent? And also how is A-S-S of Palio nowadays considering that Tata is handling the service?
So considering the following points,
1. A-S-S
2. Maintenance Cost
3. Mileage
4. Resale Value
which of the following will be best suited.
1. Esteem
2. Accent
3. Ikon
4. Palio
Also keep in consideration that the person in question is a new driver so will a hatchback be more suited then a Sedan? My suggestion was to go for Esteem and we checked a few Esteems but yet to finalize on one.
Regards,
Kaushik

forget the ikon and palio if your friend is thinking about about maintenance and servicing.
Since your friend is a new driver then i guess esteem would suit him best as its easy to drive however since esteem is discontinued so dont have much idea about the spare parts. Is your friend not interested in small cars?

Ford = EXPENSIVE
Accent should be ok
Palio is a hatch, did you mean the Siena ? ( both are hard to find , low resale values = few sellers)

If he is a new driver, and not very confident, I'd suggest a hatch

Indigo Diesel would also be a good option if your friend would be driving a lot and would want a Diesel Sedan.
