Default [Looking to buy] What are your thoughts on this car?

There is an OHC 1.5 VTEC available for sale. Following are the details:

1. Year: 2002
2. Odo reading: 62000
3. Registration: TN (Chennai)
4. Ownership: Second owner
5. Asking price: 4L
6. Mods/State: Stock with new Pirelli tyres

What do you guys think about the car?
Is it worth buying this considering it's out of date regn.?
If I get to buy this how easy/difficult it will be for me to transfer the ownership and get it re-registered in Bangalore?
What will be the Road Tax I'll have to shell out?

Thanks
Rex

its never a bargain if the car is in stock condition.you get to buy ka regn cars for the same cost and the burden of tax and tranfer of ownership is a hell.maybe you can have a free flow and green cotton filters maybe a set of aloys for the extra you have to spend on the tn car if you go in for a ka regd car

It would have been a decent deal if the registration was KA.
Just look out for other options, coz as this is TN registraion and you'll be running it in KA

First, do not opt this option. Try for KA registration only. The transfer cost and road tax should work out anywhere between 20K to 30K. The choice is yours.

You will need to pay 70% of the LTT which is 10% of new car cost - 10 lakhs

i.e close to 70 thousand.

suggest you hold on, I know of at least one well kept, modded example that may come on the market soon

Hey One question here:

Just as in this case, is there no options available to transfer LTT and/or RT between state RTO. Atleast there should be some amount of reimbursement from the Govt on these.

afterall the vehicle wont be run in that state any more they should reimburse some percent of the the Tax amount

Do you tink Govt will reimburse the amount paid to them and that to as tax? At least I have not heard of it. And if this happens it will take years to get back this money. By tht time, our friend would have become old.

The problem is to get NOC from TN and then all the paper work in KA which will be time consuming and expensive and a stock OHC in that price doesnt make sense to me... As ram_hyundai said go for a KA reg car IMO

Why can't you drive a car with TN plate in Karnatka?

Here, in NCR we see cars running with no. plates as DL, HR, UP,PB etc.

@Breezydrive, the case of NCR is different. It is smaller, compared to the surrounding states. People often live in the neighboring state and drive into Delhi. Or vice-versa.

With BLR it isn't the same. Chennai is about 350 km away. A person wouldnt normally drive into work from Chennai into BLR, right ? Or from Kerala.

The question is not about not being allowed to drive a TN registered vehicle in KA. It is more about complying to local MV laws which state that if you stay in a state beyond the prescribed time limit, you need to pay local taxes. And the chances are quite high that the person has not paid local taxes but is still using his vehicle in KA. And in BLR, it is easier to spot a Chennai registered vehicle. OR a KL registered vehicle.

this january, as some of you know, my friend bought a vtec from chennai & took it to bangalore. here's the linky (New Vtec from chennai). he has re-registered it in KA & he was poorer by around 30k, buttt he got a nice little refund from TN for something around 15k nett. so i think it is a pretty good bargain in the end, specially considering the fact that vtecs are in great demand in bangalore & the resale values are unbelievable.

Dont risk driving a TN car in KA for any damn reason - be it any time the Kaveri dispute may break or a fleecing RTO flying squads to collect road tax and fines at many points in BLR or you can always be stopped for a chai by a policeman on/off duty to play spoil sport. Buy a locally registered car, or buy a KA registered car from your homestate (assume KL ;-)), just take care of the authencity of its papers... cheers!

Try 3.80 or so if you say the condition is wht it is.. i know i had said 3.50 earlier but then 3.80 is also good enuf. 4.10 is asking too much... you'll get a NHC pre-owned for the price of that.
