Need Help/Tips in Buying Used Lancer in Hyderabad

Hi BHPians,

I need a li'l help, and opinion...

My friend is selling off his Lancers SLXD, 2001 Model, done about 54,000 kms, to me... and i wanted to know, if the vehicle is worth buying or not.

The features included are :-

1.Lancer 2001 Mode (Diesel)
2.14.5 kms in city (with AC)
3.Black Colour
4.Power Steering
5.Power Windows
6.Central Locking
7.Alloy Wheels
8.Motorized Sunroof
9. Fog Lamps
10.Life time Road Tax Paid
11. Full Insurance

Asking Price : Rs 3.85 Lacs

My Queries/Doubts....

1. Is the asking price reasonable? I opinion is, it shud not be more than 3Lacs... any more views?

2. What bout the parts/services maintainance of the vehicle? Are they costly for Lancer? And do we have enuf mechanic/shops 2 deal with Lancer issues in Hyderabad?

3. My requirement is to have a vehicle, full of style, helps me cover 1000kms a month.... and as fuel efficient as possible... so shud i GO for it or NOT?

4. How easy is it to mod a lancer? Do we have enuf mechanic/shops 2 deal with Lancer modifications in Hyderabad?


Guys, plz help me out with it.... the car seems to be in gud condition...

Just grab it! I think its a gr8 deal, considering you know the owner and the car is in excellent shape. The SLXd is fully loaded, maybe you can ask a side skirt, the diesel engine is an example of bullet proof reliability, I have seen diesel taxi Lancers do more than 2L KM's and still strong; as this is still a production model, spares are readily available and reasonable with prices reduced recently; its a normally aspirated diesel, so you will have no options to mod for performance!

I have seen 2001 lancers being sold for as low as 2.75 Lacks...!

I am nt sure bout the exact model which was sold.

What do you think shud be approx street price of the vehicle?

the price is good for such a low mileage car and if it's in top notch condition.

a glxd of 99-2000 vintage would go for 2.20 to 2.50l, resale value of the diesel lancer is good in hyd.

my lancer has done about 90k kms till now.. no probs of any kind yet.. u can spares very easily and at many places in hyd, all u need is a good mech.

ask your friend who works on his car and continue with him.. am pretty sure ur friend has found a mech to work on his car cos the sureka people are pathetic.

Hi ALL,

I checked out the car once again, drove it for quite some time.... I found the engine to be responsive, easy handling, and most of the electricals working. Engine sound was good, but....

The car "shudders" to stop when u switch off the engine...!!!

It was so evident, the way the engine vibrated to die down when i switched off the engine...

Any remarks for that????

Is it common with diesel engines? I ve never driven a diesel engine before, specially engine which is of Year 2001 make!

Also, the dashboard seemed old, and i took an instant disliking towards it... any idea How can i get Dashboard revamped? And how much will it cost me to do dashboard sprucing...?

Plz help me in making an informed decision.

I dont wan 2 repent my decision later!!!!

I guess it is pretty common for NA diesel engines to shudder before they are turned off ...

Even the CRDI shudders awake and dies down. It's pretty common and it should not worry you. If the mileage is true then you should negotiate a bit more, probably till 3.5L and close the deal.

Take a look at the price buddy. Everything else about the vehicle is good. 3.75 is on the higher side. Try getting it for 30k lesser

Looks expensive to me ,but then in south any price is justified for a diesel try a getting it near 3.15 3.30 levels

Check whether the mileage is 54,000 or 1,54,000.

My relative bought a Lancer which had run 1,50000kms from Used Car market. The broker said it had run only 50000 kms. Leter he learnt from the service centre that it was indeed 1,50000kms.

The odometer goes to zero after 100000 kms.

Be Careful with the odo reading.

The price is atleast Rs.25000 higher.

Hi All,

Finally.... I did NOT buy the Lancer..!!!

Went to a mechanic... and he pointed out a few things...

1. Original Color was Silver, was repainted to black by the owner! And this was nt recorded on RC Book!

2. The engine was throwing a lot a black smoke.... at lower gears...

3. The vehicle was manufactured in 2000, and was delivered in 2001... which the owner claimed to be 2001 model.

The mechanic, suggested the price to be DEFINITELY less than 2.8LACS...

So... finally i m nt going for it... probably will think for some other vehicle now...
