| BHPian | Hi guys. I am in a sort of confusion advising my friend. He is looking out for a second hand car in mumbai and at the moment there are 2 choices in front of him. There is this Hyundai Accent 2001 Petrol model which has done 50000 kms and in a decent condition. There is also another car which is the Ford Ikon Flair which is a 2003 model. I need help deciding among the 2 of them. How much would maintenance of both the cars cost. Whats the intervals for service and also the cost of it? Which is a better vehicle. Could you guys and gals please help. Well one point is my friend has a liking for the ikon. ![]()

| Maddy42, If he has to select one out these two cars, Accent would be the choice. Though am not owner of Ikon/Accent, my friend had a very bad experience with Ikon and sold it off at a loss of Rs. 75K on the purchase rate. so better think twice before going for Ikon

| Senior - BHPian | I would suggest you to go with Accent as i own and Accent and had a ford Ikon also, both were purchased brand new,all i can say Accent is much reliable and low-maintainence,its much fun to drive a Accent over the ford ikon rest what your heart sets on all the best for your purchase.Do keep us updated.Ramie |

| BHPian | the accent is the better one among the two..it has more VFM than the Ikon..But ofcourse both of the models might vanish soon with the Fiesta succeeding the Ikon and the Verna succeeding the Accent..But since you have only two choice stick to the Accent..The A.S.S of Hyundai is much better than that of Ford...Pick what suits you the best. Do tell us what one you've purchased finally and some pics of the ride. Cheers !! |

| Senior - BHPian | I own an Accent and I simply love it. I would suggest the Accent. But keep in mind that a 7 year old Accent in good condition is a little hard to digest. Accent's are good driver cars and driven hard so finding one in good condition and that too a 7 year old one is difficult. It will probably be one of the first Accents that were made. Have it thoroughly checked by an expert mechanic before finalising. How much BTW is the seller asking for the Accent ?

| Whoa! people suggesting a 7 year old car which has done more KMs (50000) over a 5 year old car which has done less kms (35000). I chose Ford Ikon Flair over Accent, when i bought the new car in December 2007. And i am thoroughly happy with it. People are making a big issue out of Ford A.S.S. However i am a happy customer of Ford, so far... As vkochar said earlier...i too wouldn't blindly suggest one car over other. Get the cars thoroughly checked, feel them for your self (of your friend) and choose the car which ever makes you feel comfortable and happy. I wouldn't agree to the comments "Ikon cannot be compared with Accent"..."Hyundai's after sales are better"...blah...blah...blah... Take an informed decision after you checked both cars. Thank you -Vaspro |

| BHPian | @vkochar Well thats the only thing which is why i was suggesting the ikon. As getting an accent which has not been ripped is slightly tough. @mabhi10 i will contact you incase my friend is not getting any. Will be going to see the vejhicle this week. Thanks by the way

| I personally own a ford ikon so am biased towards the same. but will tell you one thing any second hand car will be heavy on your pocket irrespective of the manufacturer. so go for an ikon as it is a 2003 model also. |

| Senior - BHPian | Between the two, its a no brainer-Accent, provided 50K mileage in 7 years is a true story ( which i doubt). If an expert mechanic rejects this then go ahead with the Ikon, though it may serve costly in the long run for your friend in terms of maintenance and resale. I drive an accent myself and it is a great car, no problems in 1.5 years ( no rattles, interiors still look brand new, absolutely no road noise, powerful ac) and must have spent a total of 3.5K in 4 services at 24K mileage which is approx 20 paise/km
