Default Used Corolla: Is it a buy?

One of my friend is looking for a used corolla and came across one with the following specs :-

Brand: Toyota Corolla 1.8E H2
Yr : 2003
Mileage: 46000
Place : Chennai
Quoted Price : 5.5L

The car is well maintained and have a couple of quieries before taking a call :-

1. Is a toyota with 46k on the odo advisable? Any teething troubles or maintanence that one might encounter?
2. Is the price of 5.5L at chennai for a 2003 model a good buy?

Corolla is a well trusted Brand so there should be no doubts on the maintenance part of it. I guess the price can be negotiated. Kindly go through the link of 2nd hand car prices from Carwale:-

Actually, I am surprised to see a low price tag for a Toyota. I've heard 5L+ qoutes on the Qualis recently.

it's a bit high i guess.. my neighbour picked up a used corolla of the same vintage, albeit the basic model with oe alloys for about 4 lacs.

qualis has very high resale.. most of which is the artifical inflation by car dealers.. a 2003 fs model sells here for about 5.5l

considering the lineage & its H2, an acceptable price would be in the window on 5 to 5.25.

Just ensure you get the service history and general check up done at authorised service station. Price looks fair if in good condition.

Price seems a bit low. 46K for a Corolla is not high mileage and may require less repair. Scheduled Maintenance is not expensive. From what I have heard, it is a fairly trouble free car with low maintenance and repair costs. You can see my long term ownership report. As of 23K kms, I am very happy with the car, and the ride/noise in particular.

Corolla seems to suffer from low resale value. I have been coming across quite a few 2003/4 models for as low as 5-5.5L whereas a 2003 Qualis is quoted at 6.5L.

But it is a terrific buy, check the service records & take it, you will love it.
