Dear Jimmy

What is the expected price of the seller??

Opel Corsa is a German car with extremely good riding dynamics.

The car drives like a dream and pot holes are eaten up in a jiffy.

However, the good part ends there. The cons out weigh the pros by a margin.

The cons are as below:

1) This is a discontinued model, moreover, from a company that no longer exists in the country(Its a GM badge notwithstanding)

2) The procurement of spares are difficult and if available, extremely expensive.

3) The resale, if you ever want to in the near future, will have hardly any takers. Moreover, you will have to sell the car for peanuts.

4) The car suffers from low fuel mileage. Hence, expect more trips to the pump.

Considering all the factors, would recommend that you look else where.

Hi arnabchak,

Thanks for the feedback.

i am exchanging my old Esteem Diesel with this car and the difference quoted is Rs 22500/-

i have a cousin who has had 1 opel corsa for a year and recently they have bought another opel corsa sail ,i have recived positive feedbacks from him for this car hence i was keen.

i understand the fuel bill will be higher but i can live with it for now.

Also spare are not an issue for him as he has always managed to get them at the service center in a timely manner , parts for my esteem diesel are as scarce as water in a desert , corsa situtation is slightly better i belive.

otherwise any reasons you can think of against this deal.

Regards.

If its driving pleasure you're looking for(which i suspect to be the case) look elsewhere.Although it's got a 92bhp mill, the engine is EXTREMELY SLUGGISH.Gearshift is notchy.Ride comfort is typically german and will filter all bumps on the road.

Also the interiors are very cramped. Its not a sedan in the true sense of the word. The hatchbacks of today feel more spacious than the corsa.Do check if that reading on the odo is genuine.Maintenance is a nightmare if something/part needs to be replaced.Make sure you get yourself a good mechanic who has access to a proper chorbazaar for parts as OPEL parts are not available off the shelf.

If you still are keen on the car, go ahead but only if you get it at a good price in the bracket of 80-100k if its truly a clean piece in immaculate condition.

Hope this helps you.

Oops guess you posted the details while I was posting.

To be very specific, if you are ok with the space and engine sluggishness in the Corsa and don't want a real upgrade, go ahead with deal. But do keep in mind the 22.5k differential is truly justified ONLY if (you're truly obsessed with the build quality of the corsa),the car requires ZERO repairs and expenses at the time of delivery, as this car is famous for expensive spares and heavy and I mean really HEAVY fuel consumption

Resale will also be a nightmare.

Corsa is a wonderful car, but not practical for Indian use. As stated above, the points are extremely accurate.

I had a Corsa till last year and all of these issues kept on. The body steel sheet is so thick, very strong chassis, peppy 3 cylinder engine and the suspension is awesome, I personally felt better than most cars. But, a problem with the water pump started, then the alternator, each time the car used to be in the garage for a fortnight because of astronomical spare rates and non-availability. A 400 km highway trip would cost me Rs 2000. Dont take it for free.

As long as you understand the limitations and challanges you 'MAY' face, I think it is a great buy for the money they come at.

Since you are in a metro, it should be relatively easier for you to look out for options on spares/service.

Just make sure that the car has no open issues/niggles etc. Try to get it inspected at a competant indepandant workshop for this.

I always felt the corsa was too low,ie-horrid ground clearance.
spares are available but rather expensive,my neighbors own a corsa and this is what I've been told
