Redsfx - i hope u are also keeping an eye open for the Rider 1.8TPI
somehow i feel anyone who bought a VRS is more likely to abuse the car than a 1.8TPi- just a thought..
btw - did u check the post above ? I think DUSTDEVIL'S dad's car would probably be the LEAST abused VRS in the market !!

Dont think I would be interested in a car out of state. My heart keeps saying RS. But have to wait and see if I have to look at the tpis as well.

Will it be a good idea to find a RS in bangalore and reregister in Chennai? How much would that cost?

Not advisable! Bangalore used car market is way too expensive (a 2005 1.8TPi rider asking 8.5L), looks like you are okay to buy a non TN state car? Then look for something from Mumbai - you would get it for cheap!

Our Bangalore TBHP moderator Ajmat bought his RS from Mumbai and spent ~2Lakhs to re-register in Bangalore.

PS: There are 2 RS (+1 RS combi) posted on our classifides section - Mumbai, Thane, Kolkata. Take a look!

If re-registering is approx 2 lakhs it does not make sense to buy an out of state car especially cars from up north.

just a question out here- what is the difference (other than cosmetic) on the 1.8TPI and the RS?

Check out the various threads about the RS. RS is a monster and the tpi is the boring cousin. It comes pretty much loaded with all goodies like the xenons, climate control, sporty seats, sunroof, yellow-red colors, etc. and most importantly a audi tt engine which has been detuned to 150 bhp. In one word its a brute. The first time I drove a RS my hands were shaking thats what an RS does to you.

  • Cruise Control
  • More speakers (I`m not sure whats on the Rider though)
  • Sunroof(dont know if you consider it cosmetic!)
  • Parking Sensors
  • Alloys and larger tyres
  • Climate Control vs Normal AC

Dont know if the Rider has all four disc brakes too.

Cheers

Having nearly bought a TPi but went for the RS

Mechanically both are the same but the suspension is upgraded on the RS

You also get

A smaller steering wheel - nice and tactile
Cruise control - useless here
Sunroof - I actually like it a lot - keeping it on tilt mode for fresh air and opening it out in the evening when there is little traffic
Body hugging seats - the white inserts are painful to clean though
Spoilers front and rear and alloys - they transofrm the looks and make the car look menacing
Climatronic

TPI is good if you plan to throw a lot of bits away and upgrade as a focussed track car

It also has the 16" alloys and I read somewhere that the suspension was stiffened up compared to the rider spec or it could be due to the larger wheels.

The suspension on the RS is way stiffer than the stock TPi. However it does make the ride really bumpy.

@Ajmat : Do you think I should look for cars out of state as well? Is it worth it? You would be the best person to tell me.

If it is well maintained, low mileage, why not!

My car had on 15000km on the clock. Cars with 40 k were going for 9.5 lakhs in Dec. I paid a little less than that for my car. Overall, I may have paid slightly more but I was getting a clean car with low milage and the NOC intact

Not at all bumpy. Very firm and very pliant ride. I've sat in one for a good amount of time from Mumbai to Bangalore. That includes sitting in the front, the rear and the boot as well. I like the ride.
