Question Ikon 1.6 exi.....Anything better???

Hi BHP

I'm planning to get a new car in around 2 months time.
i earlier had my heart set on the scorpio...but on assessing my driving needs, feel that diesel is not the way to go for me, n yeah, the scorpio was on the outest limit of my budget.

now ive planned to shunt out around 6.5L for the new car.
ive zeroed in on the ikon 1.6exi
my needs are
1)spacious with loadsa head room.
2) yes looks do matter
3) FE is a concern
4) Maintenance a definite concern....i dont want ot be in the showroom every week
5) i intend to keep the car for atleast 3.5 yrs

So what do you guys say.....is ikon the way to go or is there something better in the price range that i should consider.

Also someone please help me in knowing how can one get a good discount from dealers.

I agree with that. Buy a Baleno and fit it with 185mm or 195mm tyres and see how the handling improves.

rage,

you are on the right track pal.

ikon is spacious, looks better than the baleno , FE is around 11 KMPL city driving , i havent had any maintainence issues yet..but yes the car has resale value just a point less than the baleno. as regarding the A.S.S , here in mumbai i havent had an issue - infact the service has been good and attentive. dont know much about delhi though.

all the best for your purchase and yes do tell us what car you go in for finally.

cheers

Agreed. Both cars are around the same vintage, in any case. Except that the Baleno looks 'unconventional'. Suzuki quality should be better than Ford, anyday.

If I had money that could buy a Ford 1.6 I would have to go with the Baleno.

Well, my vote definetly goes for the Baleno.

The only thing that would prevent you from buying this beautiful machine would be it's looks.....but that can be remedied; picture this: Black Baleno Lxi with a good spoiler and alloys with some 185/195 tyres! Sweet!

why dont you test drive both the cars and compare the spares list of both cars.
decide only after that.

The ikon 1.6 and both the baleno both are good cars...the handling of the stock ikon is better than that of the stock baleno.

Ikon is meant for changing directions quickly and its mighty good at it. The baleno with its inadequate rubber is bad. But its nothing that a good set of tyres cant change.
But the baleno will pip the ikon in straightline speed.

The other problem is the looks....the ikon looks way more attractive than the baleno. But then the baleno is cheaper to buy.

Its a rather tough choice. I cant vote for one single car because both of them are equally good in their own rights.
So test drive both the cars thoroughly one after the another....and see which one you like better. You cant go wrong with either of them.

But rage's second criterion was that "LOOKS DO MATTER". I mean, yeah, the Baleno's a great car, but it ain't no looker, that's for sure.

I agree that if you ignore looks, the Baleno is the best fit.

If you want looks, buy a 2nd hand Sonata. You'll be very happy.
