The only problem with the new Fiesta would be that it will be (almost) as cramped at the rear as the existing one (since dimensions are practically the same). With both kids now teenagers, we need more width & rear legroom

Cedia is sure fun to drive, but I am a bit worried about the HM angle. HM-Mitsubishi seem to lack direction, for want of a better word.
As for new verna... Everything is good about a diesel verna. Its actually a pocket rocket, but the handling sucks. New verna? I don't know whether they will fix the handling.
If handling is a criteria, I guess you may have to go the Fiesta way again, and give up on "space".
Or you could give up on handling and go for Verna!

Absolutely spot on! The sales guy himself was cribbing - said he just couldn't figure why they were not launching the new Lancer, which has been waiting in the wings for ages now!

No way I'd give up on handling. If the new Verna is as much a boat as the exisitng one (and I agree with you, I don't see how they'll improve the handling), no way I'm gonna go for it.

Sigggghhhh, this will head the Vento way at this rate if I hold my ground about the "space" aspect!

I would suggest you wait for the new civic and the new Jetta. Both will be brilliant cars and a looker too. I mean I am not a big fan of the aero shape honda look but the audi similar front on the Jetta will look smashing. I'd say wait for the new jetta.
@Gaurav: Ok! So, we certainly think alike. I am not a big fan of the new CIVIC's styling either and the Honda petrol engines do not seem to lead the 'tech race' anymore either. So, that leaves us with new Jetta. I love the Euro spec's styling and you can join me in deciding to wait for that car. If you are in a hurry, then Vento (default choice if a slightly unexciting one). Cedia: Well, a good car that doesn't seem to have any 'feel good' factor associated with it. Also, its a dead horse which will 'officially die' soon. Big call to put your money on it.

PS: I also 'almost' settled for Vento TDI or pre owned CIVIC but have decide to wait till the new Jetta arrives. It may be costlier than some rivals but is 'expected' to be cheaper than the outgoing model. And bigger. And Audi like from rear end. And with a lot of 'feel good' factor.

Suman, what choices DO you have when you want a comfortable SUV in the sub-25L range with
- Diesel
- 4WD
- Low range?

Just 5 in the present market - Scorpio, Safari, Endy, Fortuner & Pajero. Take your pick. Go to petrol and you can add the GV. Take your pick.

Someone was mentioning about a BS-4 Pajero with CRDi. Any news on that.

Considering fun to drive you can also look out for
1) Fiat MJD 1.6. Claustrophobic be damned
2) Verna 1.6D if Handling is improved big time.

If I were you I would choose
Yeti + Tjet
or
Vento + Scorpio

What. Vento isnt fun to drive.
I think it is the most FTD diesel currently sold below 12L.
Handling is pretty good even with the stock tyres. An upgrade/upsize will result into amazingly better grip. Body roll is also well controlled. Brakes are great. Gearshift is awesome. No need to comment on engine.

Fiesta is a great handler but Vento is no less. It is only the EPS that result in a little less feedback. Not a deal breaker in FTD.

A dynamically competent Car in not just fun to drive, but its responsiveness (tractable), precision (nice, meaty steering) and road-holding makes it safer too.

This is where despite the Car which I drive triumphs and I personally like it.

Top-end gives a rush and its quite a surge, but steering a Car (THE dynamically competent & able) in your favorite back road and or twisties is another high all together and nothing beats it.

EDIT:-

Any one got any information on the Mondeo? I simply love this & the vRS (both in black)

I can understand you predicament, Suman. If rumours of the Focus launch in India are true, then why not go for it ?

Just FYI, the Nissan Sunny is also coming later this year. 1.5 liter 4 pot with extra large back seat, but I don't think its tuned for sporty handling

Suman Da,

Ant particular time frame you are looking for replacing the Fiesta and Safari or it would an eternal wait for the right one to replace? Also would both be replaced simultaneously or one by one in phased manner?

I had brought the Fiesta after reading the reviews on BHP and one of them was yours. Now I will be waiting for your next ownership review.

Lot of suggestions have been given but I feel once a fiestian always a fiestian.

The sporty handling and the exterior looks are very bad.

MY vote is CEDIA sports, having owned and driven for 30,000 Kms in a year, it is great VFM and meets all your criteria!
