What I gathered from your posts are that you are basically going for the Bmw because of :
1. The Badge
2. The amazing TD experience you had

On both accounts the 320 fits the bill a lot better. X1 is surely the sensible choice but then if "sensible" was a key word then you would have not suddenly jumped to BMW from Cruze. So listen to your heart and your kids specially and get that 320. Killer looks and an awesome drive.

What deal are you getting from Bird Auto. because they were just offering me 1.5 that to only on red, black and light blue.
Congrats!

Is it inclusive of the BSI?

Suman's quote

"Following are on-road prices that have been quoted to me, including BMW Secure & 3yrs/60k kms BSI -
  • X1 - 28.8
  • 320d - 27.8
"
And yes, why not Nissan?

And is it just the presence and ground clearance? Would you have got the 320D if the new one was out now?

Congrats! They have offered 1.5 but have indicated that they are willing to offer more if I decide to go with the 32od. No restrictions on color.

It sounds from your quote that you have not opted for either the BMW Secure or the BSI - do you think that's wise, particularly the BSI ?

Actually i know why the Nissan would be out of contention. The price is quite close to the BMW's especially after the discounts on offer for the Beemers. Not sure if the Teanna comes with any discounts.
Also when you factor in that the Nissan is a petrol. The Beemers make further sense. That leaves us with the X-trail and the Beemers. I think one knows the answer clearly there.
Even if it were me, i would rather pick up a BMW than a Nissan.

Yes, Teana maybe a good car, but if I am a buyer in the segment, I wouldnít want to take a risk with a car which manage to sell only 3-5 units a month.

Suman, since you have waited for 2 years, I will suggest to wait for a few more weeks, and check out the new Jetta. It may not have the badge value of BMW, but the car looks more pleasing than the Passat (due to its compact dimensions), and oozes quality.

Spot on. And the Teana is nowhere near a FTD car, its something that I may consider picking up if/when I'm a 70 year old millionaire who cannot drive any longer & need to be driven around in a bed on wheels

The outgoing Jetta, with heavy discounts is more than 17 lacs on-road; the new one would be touching close to 20. As I said, I'm stretching my Budget only for the Bimmer, not increasing it overall

But trust me when you do become a milionaire, i doubt you would be looking at the Teanna. But with the fuel efficiency returned, it would be better to be a millionaire with a few pumps. Or maybe even oil rigs. LOL!

Thatís true. If the price is expected to be in the range of 14-18 lakhs, the top-variant's on-road cost will easily cross 20 lakhs. I mentioned it because the car looked premium, and if they bring it in India with the DSG, it will be an added attraction. That said, itís not as premium as a BMW

Suman : You could get a larger discount IMHO than a 1.5 l to 2l that you are getting. You could try at other dealerships in Delhi.

I was evaluating between a C220 cdi and 320d and the BMW guy was giving a discount of more than 3l and bsi 3yr 60000 kms without any additional cost. (In Mumbai)

Hard bargaining is required as you already know the 3 series is end of life model.

Was the 3l discount plus free bsi on the 320D CE or the 320D Highline/Excluse ?

@vb-san. I remember reading speculations in certain automobile magazines is that the new Jetta will be less expensive than the outgoing one.

IMHO,the only VW worth considering for someone who is contemplating a BMW is the Passat. The ride of the present Jetta is supposed to be jittery. If they retain the ride, then it would be the equivalent of run flats! Back to square one!!

Charthom, I cannot comment on whether the Jetta ride is jittery but I can tell you that the Run Flats definitely do not give you a jittery ride

So what are the compromises you are making with the Bimmers wrt to the Cruze/Civic?

Cruze - you liked everything other than space? The Bimmers have poor space too?
Civic - you liked everything other than the fuel factor. But Rs. 14L is going to buy you years of petrol.

So basically net-net you are spending 14L extra for the badge? Which is ok if it's 'love'. You'd just need to be sure that it's not 'infatuation'

I will list out the additional stuff over both as well as what could be missing, once I decide which Bimmer its going to be. Right now, I can safely say -

Its not infatuation for sure
And its not love either
Its pure OBSESSION

But yes, its a conscious decision I'm taking, with an absolutely clear mind & in the cold light of day
