Other than looks, and sturdiness, i dont find anything good with the Octi. (i hope u aint into car ramming, that u need a sturdy car for.)
Space, Features, Power, Service Quality and Maintenance costs - Elantra wins.

Interiors - its even-stevens, because the Hyundai's interiors look better and feel warmer while the Skoda's material is better.

Looks, 'Prestige Value' and Perceived Build Quality - Octy wins.

Take your pick.

And if safety is concerned, Elantra should be better cuz it has ABS, traction control etc..which the Skoda doesn't offer

I have recently bought a new octavia.Had the same dilemma as to whether to buy a OPtra,Corolla,Elantra or the Octavia. After a lot of thinking went for the Octavia. No doubt it has a less of rear legroom as all know but if the people in the car are not really tall it isnt that bad.Rest everything abt the car is awesome.Build quality, the suspension,Interior switches etc.I got the interiors changed to leather and also put the L&K alloys and with that parking sensors.I think u should definitely go for the Octavia if u want a car that will feel as good as new some years down the line.Personally dont like the design of the elantras dashboard neither the exterior styling.Anyways testdrive both and then take ur decision.
Cheers.

if dad doesnt pick the Embera, then The Nautica Blue Elantra is for me, gonna immediately put a K&N Filter and broader tyres.

What about Pete's box? That should do a whole lot more than a K&N filter and tyres...

in Diesels the elantra crdi and lancer diesel are the most silent of the lot.

elantra crdi is technically more advanced and more value for money

octavia has that tough build and performance to beat.

Stock elantra suffers from "some torque steer". with petes box, even with TCS on, launches at traffic lights will have the danger of sliding the car sideways

hey steeroid bhai!

nah man,i think i will skip the Pete's tuning box for after the car does 50k kms

Broader tyres are for the grip, and the K&N to finish off the initial lag and lil more pickup.

same with my Tuc, after i do 50k kms, then will think of putting in the Pete's tuning box. the stock pickup itself is so good, that wouldnt need more immediately, but later once i get bored of this great pickup, then will need more

guyz, i have driven the elantra diesel a couple of times, jus loved it.
About the engine noise, i think its actually very very low, compared to any other diesel cars in that range. coz its the same engine i got in my Tuc, and its damn silent! now that i have the K&N, the grunt is more, but still very silent!
