Default Octavia or Elantra

I want to change my Lancer with a second hand Octavia or Elentra. Please suggest and these are my criterias:

-> Not more than 1.5 yr old.
-> Milage less than 30K
-> Feature packed ( Leather seats, climate control, Mac wheels,..) more the better .. but none of them must...
->Diesel

How much will a Octavia Elegance or Elantra cost that is not more than 1.5 yr old... And what would you suggest in terms of value for money like a Octavia might be a better car but Elantra might be much more value for money...

Thanks...

The price difference between the elegance Octy and the Elantra CRDI with leather will be at atleast 1.5 -2.00 laks.

Resale does not make more sense , as if u buy a vehicle cheap , U seel it cheap.
The depreciation in yr case of buying a used car will remain the same( no matter u buy elantra or Octy)

Elantra's maintainance cost is less that that of Octy.

Octy is more like a rock, solod , well build and looks good.

Elantra has more power to offer , though the back seats are a little inclined , legroom is better but comfort is better in Octy.

Mileage is almost same in both.

Hyundai dropped Elantra prices recently and so you should be able to get a good price for a 2nd hand Elantra CRDi - provided you find one in the market. You'll probably come across a lot of Petrol Elantras and very few CRDis.

Skoda octavia will be this forums choice, but remember that an oil change costs 7000 and if you blow your alternator you will be coughing 40K+. Same is the case with other spares
However Elantra comes with a 4 year 80000km warranty and in delhi 1 year old elantras sell for 5-6lakh.

So if you are planning on a second hand car because of your low budget, go for the elantra as the octavia may become a white elephant. Moreover you will get a brand new elantra for the price of an year old octavia.

We test drove the Octavia and the Elantra before getting our Octy. The Elantra is a pretty good package, got more safety stuff than the Octavia so it makes it a safer car. But the looks and driving pleasure don't appeal to everyone. The Skoda is more drivable is the city and am sure it gives better mileage than the Elantra.

9.5-10L on road in Delhi for the diesel, and around 8.5 on road for the petrol. Check with Hyundai dealers. they will offer 80K discount, which you can negotiate upto 1L in december

As soon as i saw the topic,i was about to type "Octavia. What elantra? "

But, after reading the Tsk's post, it made quite a bit of sense about the elantra.

But If it were me, I'd go for an octy if i had another 2 yrs of warranty

Am I greedy?

If its driving pleasure, its gotta be the Skoda as is more quiet than the Elantra, plus the loads of torque will be really helpful.

A new Elegence would be 12.5lacs approx on road, so a year old one will be btw 9-10lacs

Hehe, well we all could do with more warranty's! I feel that when you choose a car follow the "Jitni chaddar utne par" philosophy. With a 10L budget you can get an old BMW 3 series too, but you will be unable to afford it. So if you buy an old octy with your 7L budget you will begin to regret it, as you can afford to maintain a 7L car. not a 12L one. Going by service spare costs, full marks to Hyundai. Unlike other manufacturers they do not charge exhorbiant sums for service and spares even for premium models. You can get a full paid service including oil change for 2500rs on the elantra.

1365 kgs
If you are looking for performance numbers,
Elantra
0-100 11.62
40-100(4th gear) 14.5
Octavia
0-100 13.5
40-100 25s

If you look at the drivability figures, at 40-100 is where elantra beats the octy by a huge margin. Infact the fiesta does the same in 17s and Indica turbo in 20 seconds! Infact in 20-80kmph in third gear and 40-100 in 4th the Elantra will beat the RS too!
