Default Skoda diesel vs Skoda automatic ??

Guys, This is a choice one of my bestfriends has to make by tomorrow evening . Well so far hes been driving a Lancer and had been loking to upgrade his car, I did manage to convince him for the skoda diesel over the optra as thats what he was looking at also. So more or less he decided to buy a grey skoda tdi (manual) .. but then suddenly one fine day he bumped into his friend Nikhil Taneja ( ex rally driver ) and that guy had just bought the automatic and was all praise for it. And that was it ... friends gotten confused again --- so this morning when he asked me for the cons of an automatic I told him to read thru the forum and see if he cud find anything on the automatic version but I think he turned up empty handed ( i told him to go read Rtechs review of the Petes box ) , as that mite make him drop the idea of the automatic.

Coming back to the point ... pls all u skoda owners , do give me one reason each as to why u preferred manual over automatic , anything but pls pump in the replies to this post !! The car has to be bought by tuesday as he wants the heavy discounts .... HELP ,

Cheers

I picked the Manual C because:

- I'd rather drive myself, and not have a computer do the shifting for me.

- Slush boxes are for sissies

Not to mention lower pickup. But if you are talking delhi city driving in rush hour, esp in the gurgaon area, I would suggest automatic even if it means half the FE and half the performance.

A Skoda manual is pretty easy to drive and u don't have to shift often cuz of the torque the car produces. City driving is also not all that difficult.

Does the auto have any discounts??

when my father was planning to pick up a skoda (ended up buying the sonata) he specifially wanted the auto'box diesel

reason: so that he could drive around the city and city outskirts without any headaches and attend imp calls and all, without depending on the driver

there is an diff of only 1 km between the manual and the auto box.

i for one would pick up an auto box just coz it's lack of headaches in an congested city like hyd.

though manual is the only choice for us enthusiasts but for people who want to go from point a to b in a comfortable way skoda octavia 1.9 tdi automatic is a fantastic choice because-
a)it is efficient, more than any petrol.
b)the torquey engine behaves well with automatic transmission.
c)the automatic is far more comfortable to drive than the manual variant.

In any automatic there is a bit of lag when the gears are shifting. Personally, I find that most irritating. I would pick a manual simply because it's more fun and gives me more "feel".

HELLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOO. Its an art to get a hang of the autobox, once u know when u floor and when not to, it will Perform beyond u r expectations. It takes a while for a driver to get the most out of an autobox thats y i call it an art. Its something only a 'good' driver can achieve.

So autos are only for "good" drivers. Or drivers that cannot change gears at all. Extremes, I'd say.

Relax - Was just kidding on the sissy bit
