whoever, it is not victor, so i dont get why he is so worried about a duplicate RC.
The RC he will get when he purchases the car will be a spanking new one, not a duplicate.

Why are you sweating over the admin guys losing the RC? The Admin is quite a bunch of clowns (unless handled skillfully!).

I suggest you take it easy until they find the RC; else they should lodge an FIR and follow it up.

For those who think the duplicate RC will lower the resale the value of the car : without the RC, transfer cannot happen. So, the company will be issued a duplicate RC. Once the car is transferred to your name, you will be issued a new RC. So, it is not duplicate for you. All this assuming, you are issued a smart card.

If you are issued a book-type RC, then you will get the same "duplicate" RC.

Ain't I right or missing something?

Victor I think you should be firm on your decision on not buying the car unless the RC issue is not sorted out. It is after all your money and that I think should be firmly communicated

Exclamation Re: Help - RC lost by office

Well, mine is quite a terrible case. My HO is in Mumbai and the RC was lost there. But I am based at Bangalore and the car is registed here. Admin sits in Mumbai but I am at Bangalore and so is the car.

All I have is the photocopy of the original RC and the incurance papers. I have been following up with my admin but they are a bunch of jokers who couldnt care less.

My only worry (more than the hassle, cost etc) is the fact that the new paper RC will contain the name "Duplicate"

I plan to sell my car ad hence will be transferring the car directly from company name to prospective buyer for which I have got company NOC. But without original RC, am stuck solid.

A duplicate RC will be issued in the name of the company with "DUPLICATE", on it. It will then have to be sent for transfer of ownership. If you meant that a spanking new duplicate RC will be given, you are right.

Ok.
Let's try this again, when he pays money,he is buying the car?
In buying a transfer of ownership will be done?
So why would HE get a "duplicate" spanking new rc?

Add:I'm saying he doesn't have to worry that the rc he gets when he has bought out the lease will be marked duplicate.
It's ,a spanking new rc,his rc,in his name.

I agree with mayankk. This talk of duplicate RC is pointless.

Here is what I am assuming: the car right now is in the company's name. The company cannot transfer ownership to Victor's name unless it procures a duplicate RC, which agin will be an RC (marked "duplicate") in the COMPANY's name. Once this is procured, the company sells the car to Victor and a fresh RC is issued in VICTOR's name. Of course all this is moot if the RC is not a smartcard, but for a 4 year old car registered in Karnataka, I think smartcard is given.

That the RC MAY have "Duplicate" written on it is not you're main worry Sir (actually not a worry at all).

You're main worry is ensuring the admin finds the RC. That is something only the admin can do - either find the RC or file an FIR for another one. Nothing you, T-BHP or the prospective buyer can do!

An even bigger worry is putting prospective buyers on hold till the admin can get its rear moving.

Oh, you'll be so surprised! I still carry a cheap 1-page RC from Gurgaon RTO for a 2005 Corsa. This despite the RC being re-issued in Oct '10 after hypothecation was cancelled.

On the other hand, a friend was issued a smart card when he had a Duplicate RC issued from Yeswantpur, B'lore RTO for his bike after he lost his original booklet RC. And yes, "Duplicate" was written on it.

I just got my duplicate RC.

Required documents:-
1) RC copy
2) Forms to apply for Duplicate RC
3) Any NOC if the car is in loan to any bank
4) Police Certificate that your RC is lost and cannot be traced - Only orinigal is accepted. No need for FIR. Just a certificate would do.
5) An affidavit or something from a lawyer confirming the ownership of the car. Some legal affidavit that can be got at the RTO itself.

Process

1) Fill the forms and get the WIN number printed on the forms itself.
2) Pay the fees and get those reciept. Total in chennai came to less than 500.
3) The bank has to sign and imprint their bank seal in the RTO form if its under loan.
4) Attach the RC copy, License copy, Forms, Fee reciept, affidavit or that legal statement and submit the forms to RTO
5) After a week go and collect your RC.

RC will be similar to the originial one but wiht your new picture and a mention of Duplicate.

Also you can actually have a look at your original RC.

Hope this helps someone.

For the prospective buyer,it could be a re-possessed vehicle or a vehicle with a questionable past.
If the prospective buyer is dumb or has no idea about what an RC means and what it contains regarding a vehicle then he surely needs to be cheated.

A questionable car can be easily made out. But then an idiot is born everyday.

Car dealers are a shady bunch. They will tell you your grandmother's name has decreased your cars resale value. My concern is whether I fall for it or not.

Duplicate RC is a regular thing. Since its become a smart card losing it is even more common. What with pickpocketing and general absentmindedness (like me).

Your tone of voice seems to indicate that you know this for a fact. Let me tell you that it is true and I have bought vehicles with duplicate RC's directly from thge owners for less than market price!!!

Again supercilious statements

Then why in the world would they sell it for less too? If they were all crooks like you make them out to be, they should be selling the car they got cheap for market value and make a killing on it!

I really feel that you tend to make sweeping statements without verifying facts!

Spitfire, Jyobeb has a point here... The fact is (more so a stupid belief), that DUPLICATE on the RC book can mean something went wrong. Most common belief is 'stolen car'!!! Then of course full accident->rebuilt by scrap dealer comes 2nd. I agree any sensible buyer will verify the facts before buying, but with such a large used market opening up, the value of a duplicate RC book is surely lowered by the 'seller' himself to make that sale. What do you think?

See even you are free to make sweeping statements without knowing whether I actually do. So we are even-stevens

So you feel better just because you were quoted does not mean you are any of that. LOL!! If you think its something you don't get confirm on PM or a post here before jumping the gun. I would prefer to avoid your posts from now on.

Oh and I thanked your post for the word "supercilious". I liked it and have added it to my vocabulary

I had a doubt due to your statements, are you a car dealer? because its not very common to see people striking deals with duplicate RCs knowing that they might be suspect and you seem to know that even more. And you still go on and crack deals on that. Gets me thinking..

How difficult is it to verify that? I can do it by a good check. And I am no dealer.

See the problem with all this is a person's tendency to get the best deal and the unscrupulous dealers feed on that.

About stolen cars, how many on this forum have bought one?

Not everyone is a buyer for a stolen car. You and me are never the target for such deals. I have seen enough used car deals to come up with this. A stolen car will not be sold to any random individual. Trust me.

Then again how difficult is it to make this out? However good the job maybe. I have seen umpteenth rebuild Jeeps to say that statement.

If I am a seller and I have a clean car I wont sell it to the buyer who quotes less just because the RC is duplicate. I don't deal with car dealers.

PS: The BOLD text is to confirm that what I say are facts LOL!! Anyone is free to take me on it.

I agree with Spitfire.

The whole "Duplicate RC => Stolen car" is purely a figment of the dealers' imagination. They will use this excuse while buying your car with a Duplicate RC but when it comes to selling them, they will find a reasonable justification (RC, not car, was stolen)

This ploy has come up to mess up with people psychologically. Anyone who is decently versed with cars will know how to deal with a totalled-car-now-sold-by-scrap-dealer vehicle or will know to catch a stolen vehicle.

You really wanna know how stolen bikes/cars are sold : Go to Manipal/Udupi and check out Mangalore registered vehicles. A lot of them are stolen. And yes, I know this for a fact.

Personal experience : I recently sold a friend's bike; he had lost the RC. The prospective buyers did not say once "Duplicate RC, so lower price". These are just dealers' tactics.

Neither this thread nor this discussion is going anywhere!
