Halford's new album was not a big headbanger the way resurrection or crucible was sadly.

and yes the top list on that site is as per the compiled votes of their staff and well as you know people's tastes vary.

As @deathwalkr said, I just keep visiting this site and I have found many a good/legendary bands, which I have not listened before.

Had no idea who "Accept" were (Pardon my Ignorance). Later I found they are real old timers. Gave a spin to Blood of Nations album today morning. I was really blown away by their music (Could not follow lyrics fully).

That way I have been finding new bands to listen to.
Amp no worries mate! I think your preference is more straight out heavy metal and power metal. Allow me to share a couple of links with you, hope you like them:

This band from Israel mixes middle eastern music with metal. They're playing live in India next month:

I'm sure you've heard of these guys. The mighty Manowar! Enjoy!

Very nice indeed. Had known Manowar, but never heard much. This live one is a reason enough now to collect! Will start slowly!

In fact, getting to know a new metal band for me is a "science project"!

Wikipedia, history, musical textures, discography, album by album coverage....!

So to summarize which ever band I really like, I have a complete collection well thumbed, indexed and catalogued!

For a long time, I have tried to induct a new band into my collection, but no one came close yet.

Closest one was Opeth with Fates Warning a distant second. Both of whom I listened for quite some time, but then gave up. Apart from Damnation I did not find others that good!

How about Orchid and Morningrise? Those two are my favorite Opeth albums.

Still Life is also excellent for someone new to Opeth. - Orphaned Land, need to be there for the show, was spinning Mabool in the car on a drive yesterday just to remind me how good they are.

@Ampere, I think I recc'd Primal Fear to you, did you check them out? Halford-worship in terms of vocals and full-on straight up heavy metal.
Another new band you can try out is Atlantean Kodex. Let me see if I can find a link

Yes a couple are Dave's but most of the awesome ones are Marty solos.

+1

Most amazing Friedman solo IMO, goosebump time for me too.

ps: btw Tornado/Holy Wars are prime examples of 2 things we debated earlier
Marty being the fantastic soloist he is and Dave being the amazing rhythm/riff creator

pps: sorry for double posting, is there a way to delete this post and add contents to above one?

Yes sir! I did start with Best of Primal Fear and have not gone much ahead.
But yes found them to be too good. Have not got hold of full albums yet.

Of late the demand to Floyd in car has been ever increasing and that too from un-expected quarters! So very little time for a full listen!

Primal Fear kicks some serious butt.

Their songs are so infectious that it creates a metal epidemic when played

Songs like Angel in black, Metal is forever, Smith and Wesson, Armageddon all awesome metal numbers.

Talking about being compared to Halford, the vocalist for Primal Fear actually auditioned for Priest when Halford left the band but then Ripper Owens was finalised on

Great Chorus and crunching guitars solos in Kings of Metal! Too Good! This was my first serious listen to Manowar
Apart from Kings of Metal, what other Manowar albums make it to the listening cut?

PS: Hardcore fans would say every thing!

They've cancelled the Mumbai show. Looks lik I'll have to drive all the way to Pune for the show. Elysium Lawns is a good venue but Blue Frog would have been better. I was going to reserve a table and have dinner while watching Orphaned Land perform in front of me!

@Amp & Dthwalkr

Check out this cover of a Manowar song by Therion! I love to play this while I'm driving!
