I think everybody is missing the point OP made.
He is saying that trees are cut, 2 years have passed, but there is no road widening. Its all a scam.

Its really ironical that traditionally concrete jungles like Delhi are now adding forests(with significant growth year on year), while traditionally green cities are turning into a concrete hell.

That said, in Delhi on divided roads they put trees on central divider. I guess roads like ORR have wide enough dividers to put two trees abreast! Near the divider cut, there should not be any trees, but all other places you can have medium sized trees. This will negate the effect of trees being cut to widen the road to some extent.

This is the road I was talking about. Even after two years of cutting the trees the agencies are doing the one thing they do best. Play blame game.

There is another thing in Bangalore road widening which our awesome planners dont think about. A road for example will be widened till a signal after which the road will again narrow and this will create massive blocks. I sometimes think the trees are cut for the wood and maybe the price it will fetch. Where else would lawyers and others demand part of Cubbon park to be converted to a parking lot for them. Of course, it has already become one.

+1 @KRRaj
According to news, 19 trees will be auctioned today. After auction is complete, trees would be cut any moment

BBMP always gives an assurance that they will plant 'n' number of trees for every tree cut. The problem is that there is no one to verify the number of planted trees and whether the newly planted ones have survived or not

With all the unscientific widening of roads, they create even bigger bottlenecks. The 'magic box' at Cauvery theater junction is an example.

Most of the huge trees seen in Bangalore are rain trees. These trees, AFAIK, do not have huge value as timber, so it does not make commercial sense for the BBMP to dispose them off.

Apparently, the Stella Mary's school at Bhasyam Circle is going to lose a couple of buildings. I'm still surprised that no one in the BBMP proposed to acquire a part of the Sankey Tank? I wonder, how that missed the axe

I think Indian Cities should expand in a hierarchy of interconnected hub(s)-and-spoke topology with multiple transit hubs for Bus/Rail. Else all we will have is all the expanding traffic funneling through the same city center over decades.

Such expansion can avoid the pressure on old city centers to expand beyond what is optimal.

Easier said than done of course. We need people with a degree in town planning city-scaping and architecture at minimum in these decision making roles in our municipalities.

Auction was stalled yesterday after residents stopped it.
Auction replay on Bangalore's Sankey Road - Bangalore - DNA

Kudos to the residents!
Hopefully BBMP will come to senses instead of trying forceful means.

Is the traffic really that high on Sankey road? On the other hand, sometimes widening may be unavoidable. How they do it is controversial. The engineers in BBMP should not be called as such. They even lack common sense.
With the current environment in our country, both govt and citizens are going to extremes.
