| Important - Mods please delete this post if it is not agreeable to discuss this topic. I just wanted to pose a question, that how would we react if we have a foreigner as the Prime Minister/ President of India? Would we be OK?? Is it OK?? People, views would be greatly appreciated... I have a few views to post, but would do that depending on the mods if they feel it is ok to discuss this and views posted by people of TBHP. Come to think about it, I feel there is no harm in discussing this topic ... "Freedom of Speech" ![]()

| In a country with a population of a billion or so people it is rather sad that foreigners have so much power. No other country would allow a childminder with no education to hold such a high position. There are plenty of other better qualified people in India to lead the country, its just a shame that a large number of criminals are elected during election time. Ah well we have the next generation of the Gandhis to look forward to, Rahul who failed all his uni exams (like his father) is now being touted as a future PM. I sometimes think what was the point in doing away with the princely states if they were going to be replaced by political family dynasties I tell you the other thing that always pi££es me off. It is the thing about having reserved seats. Yes it was done with with good intentions but in my view it actually denies democracy and suplants it with limited democracy. Why should anyone be limited in their choice of candidates to someone from a particular "caste". The womens bill is even worse, why the heck is it needed ? women are allowed to stand as candidates if they so wish, if they do not stand or are not elected then that is just the electorate exercising their democratic right to vote for who they want . Next we will have a reservation for one legged lesbians and cross eyed midgets. |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Although they are poles apart, just a thought. If we can have a foreign coach for the Indian Team, why can't we have a foreign PM?! Considering SG, she's as good as Indian now at least. Doesn't she have the Indian citizenship?!

| since there were many India born rulers in many countries (like Singapore, Fiji,...), I dont think there is any problem for Sonia Gandhi to be the PM/President... after all she is an Indian Citizen now..there is no point in calling her a foreigner... |

As for the topic, I agree its been thrashed enough !! I personally feel SG is more of an Indian woman than a lot of women in our country .... Once she married an Indian shes as Indian as any of us. And she didn't take the seat when she cud have ( for whatever reason) and that taught a lot of hungry ppl as to what politics is all about. I'll root for her anyday as long as she keeps her policies on the right track. Cheers

Both her English and Hindi are so off track and artificial that its hard for me to digest!... Probably she should start learning sanskrit... then she'll be on the same wave-length as me! but again... nothing against her being PM... as she might just prove to a be better PM than most others in her party!

| Team-BHP Support ![]() | Its kinda funny. For a keralite who understands english and Malayalam, a hindi speaking Bihari is more foreign than an english speaking American or italian. As for foreigner, for somebody sitting in punjab, an UP govt will not make any sense as that govt will do nothing for them. This is the reason that states with high population mean better railway etc., facilities. So how does it matter if the country is ruled by a foreigner. Unity nationalism etc., slogans are good for states with high population because they will have more number of MPs. Why do you think NE etc., regions are so neglected. Even if all the people of Manipur vote against the govt at center, they will loose 2 MPs ![]() So for them does it matter that the prime minister is from delhi or from Africa?

| BANNED | Hey, Bottom line is this ... We need to root out corruption from the grass root and till that exists there is not much that can happen. Also weeding out corrupt politicians is in the hands of the general public and till they keep voting for a corrupt man our system will always stay the way it is . The younger breed of politicians seems to be made of a different mould and hope they stay that way ... it will make a difference in the times to come !! And yes to a lot of our population it doesnt make a difference who the PM is as it doesn't effect them directly ..... !! Also with the economy booming everyone says India is rocking !! Well it is but thats still not the clear picture as there are still loads of people who dying of hunger, a lot of farmers who are starving, and that still needs to be remembered coz its these people who actually make our nation. This is something which lots of ppl forget .. its like pushing the dirt under the carpet . India still has miles to go ... !! The PM is not the one who will get us there but us individuals ... so a PM - foreigner turned Indian = Acceptable .. Cheers |

| I am sure you mean person of foreign origin/descent. Our constitution (and evry other one in the world) does not allow a foreigner to hold a public office like that of PM or President. In today's day and age of coalition politics a single PM or president has almost no powers of his own. Everything hangs on the precariously thin thread of CMPs and partner appeasements. And then after all this if a person of non-indian origin (but now a citizen) actually acts in good faith for this country as opposed to a Lalu of Indian origin whose only angle in life is to rake in the moolah from every possible corner I would prefer that any day. Mind you this is not a supporting voice for Sonia though. I have strong reservations about her utility. IMO she simply lacks the karizma needed to represent a vibrant economy like India (not to speak of her other attributes).

| a foreigner coaching india is not the leader of the team, he is just a support function. whereas a pm is a person who leads the country to put us on the world map. in the US, there is no colored President, no president of foreign origin, no lady president..so why should we have a foreigner as a PM who does not have the pulse of the nation? ![]() yesterday, i saw on the news a new political party formed by IITians.. maybe we need a wave of change....

The Nehru family held the country back from development for nearly half a century. We should recognise and acknowledge the work done by REAL INDIANS to take the country forwards rather than hanging on to half backed failed socialist policies. I will continue to call her a foreigner. There are plenty of well educated REAL INDIAN individuals to lead our Country to future prosperity without us needing educational failures like Sonia and Rahul running the show. Do you guys seriously think that Mahatma Gandhi wanted the Congress to be constituted into a family dynasty ? Well he wanted the Congress to be wounded up after independence but power hungry individuals ignored his wishes.
