Default Let's Christen Maruti 800 !

Dear T-BHPians,

I have been thinking for long that how come the one of the highest selling car in the history of automobile is not having a proper name. I have even come acrss various posts and news articles mentioning the same and I feel it is the proper time to do so due to the following reasons namely Maruti 800 is going to be discontinued soon and a replacement is being considered by Maruti for it. Its like ZEN replacement called ZEN Estilo. I therefore request all T-BHPians to propose their suggestions for a proper name for M800. Let me begin with my suggestion...

Maruti NEO - Do New (like Alto-let's go).

Hope Maruti is listening.

Maruti ONE . It is the one & only car for most of its owners, and also the car that made Maruti the No.1 manufacturer in the country. In fact, the Maruti 800 remained the best selling till only a couple of years back, when the Alto overtook it.

I can't think of a better name for the Maruti 800's successor.

Isn't it a coincidence that NEO and ONE are quite close to EON - the current M 800/Alto competitor.
P.S. - I am floating in air as not only my First thread is posted but it is answered first by one of my fav T-BHPian. I didn't expect this... to be honest.

Isn't the original name of the M800, Suzuki ALTO?

If i were asked to name the new M800, it would be Suzuki Sapna, for it was the car that made the dream of the indian middle class to own a car, come true.

Mar(100)uti, perhaps?
maruti ate hundred?

Sorry.

I feel they could name it anything, but it just wont have the magic of the 800, or will epitomise mobility to an already mobile buying populace.

call it maruti car.

I can't think of a better name for the Maruti 800's successor.
But we already have Force One and Fiat UNO (which means One). If we look back when the M-800 was launched, this name is appropriate.
On a Lighter Note : In the process of naming it as ONE (which is also a number like 800) you have made the already light car lighter by 799 (or 795 to be exact).
Also to Mayankk and others - I request to try and visualize the situation in 1983 when the car was to be launched. Please don't consider the current situation.

'One' is indeed a very apt name for the 800's successor. However, there are other cars with similar names. There is the BMW Mini One (which is just a variant, but still!) and then you have India's very own Force ONE. And the BMW 1-Series.

So I would simply improvise. Take the '800' out and throw in 'Eight-Hundred'.

It would, in all probability, create a new cult segment for itself and become a popular modern-day reincarnation of the original people's car in India.

This car, perhaps, is the second car in the entire world to be known by the engine cubic capacity after the maker's name; the other one being Fiat 1100.
But fondly Maruti 800 is called by every one and is known as simply 800. Even the Fiat 1100 was never known as 1100 the 800's other suffixes like type 2 notwithstanding.
So in its last lap let us give it a name as suggested by carwatcher or at least to its successor.
The ONE and NEO resembling EON are great ones.

I remember reading Autocar's Hormazd Sorabjee's wish to own the last of the 800s when it happens. Now there will be too many to bid for that.

I cannot think of putting another name for the 800. I had one for 7 years- our first car! It was light, peppy, had a direct steering, decent enough space. Its no luxury car- but, for the price and for our first car dreams- it served beautifully!

55k kms later - had to sell it because we needed a car with a/c. Repented that decision ever since. Hopefully - I'll get to buy it back someday.
