all said & done i think nobody can deny the fact that tendulkar is really a gifted person...he's the best...inspite of us hating for the free stuff..that doesn't take away his credit for being a gr8 batsman...hats off to him.....

If the cricket rule book was to be renamed, they'd probably name it "Rahul Dravid".

I've never seen anybody go by the book as much as he does.

He is my all time best batsman, not the the most successful but the best.

Regards...

My vote goes to Ricky Ponting. Easily the most exciting, aggressive, consistent and technically correct player. Genuinely classy and dominates both pace and spin bowling-- as a world-class No. 3 batsman should. Has all the strokes, is not afraid to play them, and absolutely slaughters short-pitched bowling -- the hallmark of a great player. As for Rahul Dravid -- he is Mr. Reliable, has saved India on innumerable occasions, but not aggressive enough; his painfully slow scoring (most of the time) lets the bowlers dominate; technically sound, but not as comfortable as Ponting on fast, bouncy pitches. Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara are now well past their prime. Hayden is good, but not consistent enough, and definitely not in Ponting's league.

even though i love lara and dravid and tendulkar .. no one (in my opinion ) is as experimenting , consistent as Ponting, he can play multiple roles attacking or as an anchor and you can count on him every time may it be one dayers or tests Ponting is DA MAN

Keep Sachin and Lara aside. They could not be compared with any of the players here. Dont judge by the what is today ( we are not selecting playing 11)

With the remaining, I would opt for Ponting followed by Rahul Dravid

Too difficult to choose one.
  • Lara and Sachin for their genius. Hitting 375 first and 400 later, with 500 in First class is not imaginable for mere mortals. For those scores, I would rate Lara a notch above Sachin. Hayden plundered 380, but that was against hapless Zimbabwe attack.
  • Dravid for his technical brilliance, patience, ability to score consistently and when needed most. Only drawback is he doesn't command bowlers like Lara or Sachin or Pointing do.
  • Pointing for his talent and consistency both. He is even surpassing Dravid in consistency. He isn't as fun to watch as Lara or Sachin on song.
  • Hayden is good, but not so good to rank among rest above.
BTW, did anyone see how effortless Laxman can be? He is an artist. (Azhar was another one).
