It spiked basically due to Euro Zone crisis as investors run for safe heaven to gold/silver, however the rally was not a steep climb as it has been earlier.
Gold is good for investment if you grab it during its lows, if ones buys @ 30K levels he certainly have to sweat a bit before he see's the charming smile.

See the price history, you would not regret buying gold but on lows of the year.

Gold is always a safer bet for investors to park their money while the markets are slow and down. Rs. 30000 is what it touched few days back. Not everybody can make money in the stock market.
But what goes up must come down.
The price of gold this time has been spiked up due to the dragging slow markets running around like a headless chicken. But only time will ll tell whether the prices would plateau or drop..!

Hi everybody
It is good of ghpk to put the price of gold.
On a different forum I had put the same in US $.I put up the prices from 1969 to 2011.
The big appreciation is more because our rupee depreciation.
However at 30000 for 10 gms looks pretty steep.Whether it will go up or down is anybody's guess. The question is whether buying gold at these prices.Would love to read a few opinions
Just an aside.Quite a lot of families in India would have gold in the form of jewellery and that should also be considered as gold holding. No doubt it does not have the value as a gold coin/bar but still it is gold.
Regards
PS ghpk if it is not too inconvenient could you please upload the prices in US $ terms. The standard would be per ounce. Thanks

Appreciation is very poor from 1988 to 2002.

But just see the increase in rates after 2003 it's just like property prices.

I still believe investing in property is much better in terms of returns but if someone has small sum of money then investing in gold is definitely better. From the data you can see that rates have hardly fallen.

The returns have been good only year 2000 onwards. Before that the returns were around 5%. That what I have heard.

Friends,
Will this be a right time to invest in gold now? Or wait? People are saying, the prices of gold might dip further.
Thanks

Expected to increase with a good monsoon and with the festive season coming. Have been advised to buy before end August.
