I am sure he was unique! He had many firsts to his credit and all this made him a phenomenon.

Here are some facts about the Super Star :

-He real name was Jatin.

-He bought his bungalow "Ashirwad' fromJubilee Star, the late Rajendra Kumar.

R.I.P. Rajesh Khanna-dsc02014.jpg

(picture clicked by me)
-He had said that among his heroines he liked Sharmila Tagore and Mumtaz as the best. He and Mumtaz did 8 films together and all were super hits.

-He shot the song Roop Tera Mastaana from Aradhana in a single take- a record of sorts!

- A Bombay University textbook had an essay "The Charisma of Rajesh Khanna" when he was at the height of super stardom.

-When he was going steady with Tina Munim (now Ambani) in the late 1970's and early 1980's, it was reported that they used to share the same toothbrush.

- His first and all weather girlfriend Anju Mahendroo was tensed when one fine morning it was reported that the superstar had married Dimple Kapadia, soon after the success of Bobby.

-He gifted a Lotus car to Dimple Kapadia very soon after marriage.

-He owned a white Standard Herald, that was his first car ever, to which he was emotionally attached. This car was with him all through.

Among his later movies AVATAAR with Shabana Azmi (a must see ) is a great film. In a character role, he played a mechanic who owned a garage. A wide variety of cars are also seen.

May his soul RIP.

I must be in 7th std. in Fr.Agnel Technical High School Bandstand Bandra, sometime in 1969. I used to see him driving his CAPRI. Once I saw him driving around in same CAPRI with damaged exhaust pipe I waved at him and he waved back along with a smile as if saying thanks for reminding him about the exhaust pipe noise.KAKA JI R.I.P.

The first super star of bollywood. The man who made melodious romantic songs like mere sapnom ki rani and roop tera mastana even more enjoyable. He will be missed everyday. God bless his soul

May god bless his soul.
My parents spent their teenage life In mumbai, and they were friends with many bollywood personalities some of them were recognized already, some went popular later.

my parents recalls, one of the biggest craze then was Rajesh Khanna, girls used to send blood written letters, teenagers used to bunk classes/office if they knew there's gonna be a shoot somewhere where they could catch a glimpse or two.

Oh what a loss, Infact those are the people who would never die on the screen they worked on, and never die inside our hearts.

May his soul rest in peace.

RIP Phenomenon.

From the posts above, he gifted a Lotus, had a Standard Herald and a Ford Capri; he spoke about a red Toyota in an interview telecast yesterday.

Any possibility of a thread on his cars?
That will be eulogy indeed.

Here is a BBC documentary on the superstar from 1973- so period and nostalgic!

BBC Documentary Bombay Superstar – Rajesh Khanna | Tanqeed Bollywood Forum

It is in nine parts and needs patient watching!
The BBC correspondent shows the superstar reporting late at 12.30 pm for a Namak Haram shoot, instead of the scheduled 10.00 am. The Director Hrishikesh appears to have become impatient.
Next the correspondent says that getting an opportunity to interview the superstar is like getting access to royalty. If the royalty says you come at 3.00 he means it, whereas for Rajesh he does'nt.

He was supposed to have had the charisma of Italian actor Rudolph Valentino and the arrogance of Napoleon according to the documentary. Well he was the superstar and there were none before him to emulate
His movies had stories, RIP.

Another legend passes away, leaving memories in wake. As someone who grew up a bit past Kaka's prime, I remain thankful to Doordarshan for introducing me to many of the classics that he starred in.
He will be missed dearly.
RIP sir!

RIP Sir. Your movies and more so your romantic songs will live forever.
His last words as told to Mr.Amitabh Bachchan by someone at Rajesh Khanna's deathbed were 'time ho gaya hai! pack up!' (time's up, pack up).

My favourite line, though not as popular,is from the film Bawarchi released around 1972.
"It is simple to be happy but it is difficult to be simple.
Loved his touching song"Zindagi ke safar meing guzar jaate hain"from Aap ki kasam
Another song not too well known from Alag Alag
