Unhappy R.I.P Pandit Ravi Shankar

Hi Bhpians,

It is with extreme sadness that I inform you about the demise of Padmashree Pandit Ravi Shankar at the ripe age of 92. I guess this year has been extremely bad with the loss of maestros and stalwarts in the field of art and music :( . May his soul Rest in Peace.

Very saddening to hear this. Panditji was truly a global ambassador for India's musical heritage and legacy. With his well-publicized and appreciated collaborative work with the Beatles, Panditji firmly put Indian classical music on the world map.

May his soul rest in peace.

I belong to a town called Maihar, in Madhya Pradesh, the place where Pandit Ravi Shankar spent his learning years, his teacher was Ustad Allauddin Khan, have heard a lot about pandit ji being a very devoted student and his guru's favourite from my gandmom, who was very close to ustad Allauddin Khan and his family. A huge loss to the world of Indian music for sure!

RIP Panditji. It has been a pleasure listening to his sitar recitals. I had been to one concert of his at Chennai and had the privilege of watching the legend performing live.

A great loss. Whenever you hear Sitar strains in western music, you have to remember him.

Read that he was living abroad with his brother like any westerner when he had to leave all that and come back to India to assume the role of traditional shishya ( "from places like New York and Chicago to a remote village full of mosquitoes, bedbugs, lizards and snakes, with frogs croaking all night. I was just like a Western young man. But I overcame all that.”) to learn music.

The legend is no more. One must say he managed to pull on to the ripe old age of 92, so I guess father time is the ultimate arbiter. Still it is a loss to hear of his end. I was fortunate to hear him live with Ustad Alla Rakha on the Tabla.

RIP Panditji.

What a howler! I think this is the MTV US' webpage because the domain name 'mtv.com' belongs to the US parent. Nonetheless MTV is incorporated and headquartered in the US and you'd never expect this level of ignorance and stupidity from them. Once again those guys have demonstrated a general lack of knowledge and intelligence in keeping with their overall reputation.
