64Kbps is not Broadband as per Trai classification. Your service provider is ripping you off buddy. Hathway should be okay, but I have heard of problems from ppl who subscribed. Basically depends on your location, no. of subscribers in your locality and the distance of the nearest office from where they will bring in the cable.

Is the DataOne service really so bad? Of late I heard the DataOne speed has improved tremendously and even the service has got better as they want to touch that magical landmark of 1 million subscriber.

Guys... anyone aware of the card they now sell as a standalone thing for laptops? I guess its called AirCard or something and several operators like Reliance and Airtel support it wherein you just plug it into your laptop and it automatically dials and connects to the Net. No separate modem or phone is required.

How good is it? Also how much does it cost?

Quality of the connectivity is good. No complaints. Almost gets through 90% of the promised speed which is more than enough.

But make sure you dont call them for any support ( which is mostly not required). Anything related to connection problem will be solved by the outsourced agent, but if you end up with billing issue or something like that where bsnl intervention is required, you are closed.

I have used the Air Card from Reliance for some time in my office. Though I am not aware of the exact cost, it costs something around 10 or 12K and the speed was decent enough for browsing but not good for downloads. I guess, you have multiple rental plans starting from Rs.700.

I have 2 broadband connections
1. Hathway: 512 kbps, Rs.3000 (+10.2% ST) per year for 2.4 GB d/l (Modem owned)
2. MTNL: 256 kbps, Rs. 178 (+10.2% ST) per month for 400 MB per month (Modem rental Rs.80 pm extra)

My experience is that the MTNL BB is as fast as the Hathway, as it gives a constant d/l speed (a horizontal line), whereas the Hathway speed goes up and down.
