bro.. whatever it was but these so called bikers were not shooting / killing people out there in mid of night. In no way one can justify the shooting by the Police. Delhi Police is way capable to handle situation by many other ways... and Just for info, people who say that police did not have the backup... CP Police station is hardly 2 min away from the spot..

I had thought that after my post the discussions would stop but it seems not. People want to put forth their views across. So be it.

Am attaching an image of two news items that appeared in today's newspaper.

Police fire after altercation with street stunt bikers in Delhi, one dead-photo-16.jpg

In one, the speedsters in a modified Gypsy without vehicle papers & driving licence tried to run over the cops. In another a constable's life has been lost in line of his duty. Would you all here those lambasted the Delhi police and its citzens (A city gets the police it deserves), now take the cudgels on behalf of the law enforcers?

As for my opinion, if the cops in the above two incidents shot at the culprits and any or all of them would've died, I would have applauded. Human rights be damned.

I have a 16 year old son. This kid was 3 years older. Still a teen. Yes he can vote and drink legally. But in my book he's still (was) a kid.

You only speak about cop's shooting but are silent about the biker's misdeeds. Please also make a mention of that.
I have. The biker's "misdeeds" did not warrant the use of lethal force. In no police handbook anywhere in the world.

You accuse police of being judge, jury and the executioner.
I repeat. The job of the police is to uphold the law, to investigate, and to arrest and bring before the courts. Not kill.

This victim was 19 years old. Which means he was major. Not minor. So he is fully accountable for his misdeeds and misconduct. If he is old enough to commit a crime, he is old enough to be prosecuted.
Exactly. You said it. Prosecute the kid. Don't kill him.

Contrary to your belief, police are not as trigger-happy as you would like us to believe. How many such incidents have you heard of? None, so far, I'm sure. This is the frist time I ever heard of such an incident anywhere in India. If police really were so trigger-happy as to shoot every minor traffic violater, half of this country's population would have been shot dead by now.
This is one time too many. When will you decide to raise your voice? After someone you know or are close to has been shot out of hand?

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

And laslty, imagine, just imagine that you were a policeman out on a night patrol in a group of three. And suddenly a group of 20 -30 men attack you. What would you do? W-H-A-T W-O-U-L-D Y-O-U D-O? Please do not tell me you will call in reinforcements. You will not have the luxury of doing that because every second makes all the difference between life and death. Would you or would you not use your weapon in self-defense? Why police, any citizen can take other man's life in self defense if he is about to be killed by that person.
Bollywood flicks and Amitabh Bacchan notwithstanding, this kid was shot in the back while escaping. Was he shot at deliberately or was the cop actually foolish enough to have been trying to shoot out the tyre of a bike speeding away and wheeling at 2 in the night? The jury is out there on that one. But the "self defence" line has long since been discarded. As has the shoddily planted "evidence" of a convenient pile of stones in the middle of an area of the capital where more often than not a blade of grass is not found out of place. Maybe the bikers move aroud with the pillions carrying stones as ballast to make popping wheelies easier ......
