Besides, wouldn't an isometric variation mean that his position would be knees-bent for an amount of time rather than standing straight with a heavy barbell and weight on your back/neck?
i am not sure if the intent is always to squat - today i was doing heavy squats (all ways way down) and the instructer walks up to me and says "this not how you do squats, take a light weight and just go down 10 degrees and back up" I was shocked and almost laughed out but then controlled myself and said to him "thanks will try doing that sometime but not today "

So the point is if these new instructors are giving such advice, then I am sure there's lotsa people who have blind faith in the instructor and will never even do a real squat!

actually i have felt going all the way down puts extra stress on joints. i don't do heavy weights anymore (as if i am a retired body builder ) but from my old days, i thought it was better doing the squats was easier done in two parts. similarly i used to do arms, one set straight to 90 degrees, and then another set 90 to 180 degrees.

I've seen people go higher/lower between reps which means only one thing, cheating.
I would just sit on it after a few reps

I think thats a given for any workout.

You start when the second-hand of the clock is at 0 and you keep doing your reps until the hand reaches 20 seconds. Then you rest for 10 seconds. Then start and keep going for another 20 seconds. Don't increase/decrease weight between your sets, wastes time. Keep the weight to around 55%-75% of your max.

So you're doing 2 sets every minute, and 10s of rest between every set. Keep doing this for 4 minutes, which is 8 sets of pure ***-kicking. If you're not using very light weights, I guarantee you that you'll either be in a large puddle of sweat or vomit Lots of info available on google:
tabata - Google Search

That is very close to what I'm suggesting. Here I don't know if you hold on to the weight, like a drop set, but my way is to rack it back- catcha breath- go again.

You do rack the weight, but there's not enough time to go around and look at cute chicks around the treadmills, you just catch your breath and start again.

A friend came across this article
AskMen.com - Protein shakes
AskMen.com - Meal replacements
and wanted me to check if the supplements recommended in this article are available in bangalore
Ultramet Champion Nutrition
Met-Rx protein plus drink mix
myoplex low car shakes
Where would these be available in bangalore and how much would they cost? Or are these recommendations junk :-)

Hey, never thought I'd be posting in this thread......here's a question for vikram18, pranavt and other experienced bodybuilders here -

What squat technique is preferred for building overall leg mass?
a. High-bar squat
b. Low-bar squat

I've read that the low-bar squat is used by powerlifters as it allows one to lift more weight and that it builds hams & glutes as opposed to quads whereas the high-bar squat distributes stress more evenly b/w quads and hams/glutes and is hence used by bodybuilders.

Should one use one of these techniques only or rotate both? I've been squatting for about 4 months and find myself preferring the low-bar position along with a wider foot stance - feels more stable!

Doing full squat is actually safer than doing any of those half squats.
Check the mechanics of the movement and the stress generated.

Squat Analysis

arse to ground (or is it grass) is the best!

New discussion, stretch marks remedy

If you don't have them, you are lucky.

Lets not talk about what causes them but more about how to get rid of them.
I've got like 4 dull lines near my under arms, sadly getting big fast means the skin can't cope up.

I've used Adapalene gel/adeferin gel and it doesn't work too well.

So what creams/gels have you used? Or laser costs?

Default help needed deciding between gyms

Are there any members here who workout at Talwarkars or Golds gym. I am looking to change my gym since the one in my office complex moved out.
Talwarkars is close to my home in Basveshwarnagar, small but tidy.
member ship - Rs. 20,000 including VAT for 15 months ( 12months + 3 months free)
Golds Gym - on the way between home and office (RMZ infinity, old madras road) membership - 17K (inclusive of 30% corporate discount for 12 months period)

I would like to hear from people who are members in these gyms about their experiences, suggestions and how much more i can bargain on membership fees. I really don't care about their personal trainers and instructors as i have my own regiment which has worked for me over the years.

The initial fee was around 24k.
Got a sports discount for 50% so pay around 12800 for a year.

Staff is good. Trainers quiet helpful till now.
Neat and tidy.
Very good equipment.
No major complaints and i will recommend it to you.
