Ritik - I highly doubt the Sumo was a rip-off of the Discovery. The designs have a lot of differences among them. Apart from the basic shape virtually everything is different.

As for the Jetta & Corolla yes they are strikingly similar but I kind of fail to understand why VW designers would like to ape a car which is not a good-looking one anyways. But yes the rear portions of both is very very similar.

Thats true. We are only comparing the outside shape of the vehicles. Cars that "look" like others. Maybe the pictures dont bring it out that clearly, but the sumo has been copied from the RR.
Much like how the Tata's copied the Tata Estate from the Mercedes station wagon.

The punch line for the H3 runs " Any smaller and it would be called European".

Well, when its even smaller its called the Toyota FJ Cruiser.

The Hummer's history starts with the Humvee that was commissioned by the US Army in 1983.

The Landcruiser FJ is a legend in its own right, having started production in 1960s. The 2007 FJ Cruiser retains many of the styling cues from the Original FJ, including the white roof, and is considered to Toyota's version of reworked marquees like the Mini and the Beetle. It is NOT a copy of the Hummer.

Here's a pic of a 1979 FJ40:

Copy or no copy, the present FJ Cruiser looks eerinlgy similar to the H3. Maybe the success of the Hummer prompted toyota to re look at its design.

KIA Picanto, Looks similar to Hyundai Santro ....

Kia Amanti:-(sonata was much better)
Hyundai took over Kia some time ago and they sell similar looking models under two different brand name with different product mix and price.
Having compared Hyundai with Kia for the look alike factor, we have Toyota and Lexus, Honda and Acura, Nissan and Inifinity, Ford and Lincoln, VW and Audi, Skoda, Seat etc while the latter is regular / luxury brands of same manufactuer.
Chery Auto has a line up where models closely resembles Spark, and other models from KIA/Hyundai

Renault and Nissan are same company now! So, Renault is getting better and Nissan poorer

Also, I think Hyundai and Kia are under same Korean conglomerate.

Good thread & Nice research you put there SRK

Btw The Fiat & tata look similar because they have been designed by same design house.

Btw most of the pre-Indica tata cars were direct rip of from Mercs.

The Tata Sumo is a rip off of a Merc G class

See this pic & check the bonnet & headlight

Also not all are copies, many manufactirer use cars from other comnies stable if they dont have a car ina particular segment. I belive teh Wgon R is used by Many companies under different names.

@ritik.... Corolla and Jetta are entirely different. Jetta is lithe, muscular while corolla is more rounded. To a layman with a casual eye they "might" look similar but not "us".

@kkr2k2

Swift may be inspired from Mini Cooper..But It doesnt look like it..
I mean you can make out from far what A Swift is What a Mini is..
Soory If I sound offending but both the cars dont qualify here together..
