BPL isn't the best technically, not even close. There's pace and physicality, but finesse takes a back-seat. That was painfully obvious even at club level, when Manchester United couldn't keep up with an in-form Barcelona in the CL finals twice.

Chelsea manages to get as far as they do by parking the bus as often as they can but even that isn't fool-proof, as they found out last season.

Risking the ire of Manchester United fans further, Rooney is good but not world class. Neither is Gerrard or any of the other England seniors. The only player in the current England squad who'll be world class sometime (but not yet) is Sterling, given he's developed well at Anfield. Ross Barkley looks like he'll be another Rooney, club-level star but awful internationally.

England need to stop looking at positives at every major tournament and start looking for results. Would probably want to start by actually promoting local players in top club teams. If there were rules for minimum local players per team, some top PL teams won't even qualify to complete. That's why I like what Rodgers is doing, letting Sterling and Sturridge start as often as they can and give them the independence to hone their game. It's time the other top teams followed suit.

Italy wants to go home, soon it will be. Pathetic football from them; what is Di Rossi doing there, he just wants to pass the ball back when he gets, and so is most of them. Being the ace striker, Balotelli can't even control the ball, forget dribbling!

And a gross mistake from the referee for not allowing the penalty.

The Costa Rican defense reminded me of Italian defense in its heyday, specially in the second half. Costa Rica deserved to win. FIFA 2014 is producing surprise results regularly.

Italy deserved to lose today, pathetic performance!
Overrated striker Balotelli missed two easy chances in 1st half, he should be dropped for next game, but Italy doesn't have any options, Cassano & Insignia were pathetic too...
What happened to Pirlo today? Hardly any balls lofted on to the penalty box...

And Costa Rica is the underdog in this WC, they have beaten two Top 10 teams so far (Uruguay & Italy), they should reach Semifinal if they continue to play free-flow aggressive football like this...

Turning out to be quite a World Cup!
Costa Rica beating two former champions. I won't be surprised if they manage to beat the third one - who are already out of the competition.

Except Honduras, all the *American teams are doing really well.

It's all upto Germany, France and the Netherlands to salvage some European pride in this competition.
Any takers for much fancied Belgium?

You know there is something rotten with the FIFA ranking system when the Swiss are ranked 6th, and the French 18th.

They scored 2 quick goals now. France 5 Swiss 2, very weak defence!

It was a listless performance by Italy. They now face a virtual knockout game against Uruguay. Costa Rica deserve to go through to the next stage. And England deserve to take the early flight home.

It was raining goals in the France-Switzerland game. Les Bleus are beginning to peak at the right time, and they are definitely among the contenders for the title now.

The Ecuador-Honduras match turned out to be a pretty good one to watch. Honduras played much better than they did in the first game and Ecuador put up a fine show to bag three points.

I have never seen a more negative/defensive mindset than Iran.

From the match that just got over Argentina made some real heavy weather against Iran and at one point of time I thought Iran would actually score a goal more than argentina.

Argentina depend heavy on that genius messi and the others are such poor finishers.

It looks like Germany today are the hot favourites!

Brazil and Argentina are grossly overhyped.
Iam hoping for a Germany-Holland final and Germany to win.

German's have the dubious distinction of losing their 2nd match in the World Cups. Hope they break the jinx!
