Ghana is playing like a warrior. They are pushing the Germans real hard. I'm wondering how did they loose to USA.

The schedule yesterday looked boring on paper, but what a show by Ghana to come out with a 2-2 scoreline against the mighty Germans. And they did look capable of coming out with a win.

Amazing game by Ghana! So good that I was hoping they'd win. And maybe they could have. If only Jonathan had passed to Gyan.

Argentina's qualification would have been decided only by the next round of simultaneous group matches, had it not been for Messi's brilliance that resulted in the injury time goal. The Ghanaians were quite impressive in their 2-2 draw against Germany.

The Bosnians and Herzegovinians have every right to feel cheated of a point. The goal by Džeko should have been given, for he was definitely on side. The referee's assistant certainly got it wrong, resulting in the win for Nigeria.

The Portugal vs USA today should be deciding for Portugal. If they loose, they will be the third big football team to be knocked out of the tournament. The next upcoming interesting matches to watch would be Italy vs Uruguay, Portugal vs Ghana, Germany vs USA. This is going to be an exiting final week in the first round of the tournament.

Who’s In, Who’s Out. A good analysis for the next week.

Quote:
Group D

The Italy-Uruguay match will probably be a highlight of the coming week. It's virtually a playoff between the two, with Costa Rica having clinched advancement.
Quote:
Group G

Every team is alive, and none have clinched advancement. Germany is in the strongest position. The United States does not guarantee itself a spot in the next round unless it at least ties Germany. Ghana and Portugal both need a win, in their head-to-head match, and also need help.
Quote:
Group F

Argentina, as expected, is in a dominant position, but there are still surprises here: Nigeria controls its fate, and Iran is alive.
Quote:
Group A

Despite its disappointing tie with Mexico, Brazil remains in excellent position. The match between Mexico and Croatia is akin to a playoff, in which Mexico starts with a half-goal lead.

Football can sometimes be so heartbreaking where for 90 minutes a team does everything right and still ends up losing. I am referring to the Iran vs Argentina match. Although I am a huge Messi fan but the way Iran handled them was phenomenal. They didn't have a single good chance on the goal apart from that created by Messi in the end. I honestly wanted Iran to get a draw which they rightly deserved after all that hard work.

Portugal now stands almost eliminated. Given the way the other teams in Group G play, it's almost an impossible task for Portugal to make it t the next round. This week is going to be really interesting.

No way Iran played better than Argentina. Iran never looked to attack except for a few times in the second half, all they wanted was Argentina not to score. But I agree that Iran defended well and the Argentinians themselves were lackluster and the Messi goal stood out.

From the link that I shared above, regarding Portugal.

Quote:
Portugal is in trouble. To have any chance of advancing, it needs a win over Ghana and not a draw in the Germany-United States match. If Portugal wins, it will be tied with the loser of the Germany-United States match, if there is one. But Portugal (goal differential: -4) will have trouble winning the tiebreaker against Germany (goal differential: +4) or the United States (+1). Portugal cannot top the group.

That is why I said, Portugal stands almost eliminated. There are a lot of if's that needs to be satisfied for Portugal to advance to the next round and the other teams in the group are competitive enough to not conceding defeat. I would say, Portugal just has 1 % chance of advancing to the next round. Very sad for a big team like Portugal.

Portugal don't look like they can win by 5+ goals against Ghana, barring some freak miracle. Ghana has shown terrific grit so far and I wouldn't put it past them to actually nick a result themselves!

Watching the opening 35 mins of the 2 matches (spain vs Aus and Ned vs Chile), the passing is not upto the mark. Lots of wrong and unfinished passes.

Both Chile and Ned had some good chances to score but they fluffed.

In the Spain vs Aus matches, Torres and Villa again missed. Aus are pressing hard and looks like they have done their homework against Spain.

Spain at-least now has a consolation victory against Australia. Wow... What a way to go back home! I'm looking forward to the Mexico vs Croatia match. Hope Brazil makes it to the next round by winning against Cameroon.

First half of Brasil vs Cameroon and it has been a nice and fast paced encounter till now. Neymar has two goals to his name but cameroon are not content sitting back and have attacked and have a goal to their credit as well.

Mexico vs Croatia is not as fluent to watch and there has been lot of bad blood between the players in the latter part of the first half.

Currently it looks like Brasil and Mexico are through from Group A

Brazil have a nightmare of a match against Chile in the Round of 16. Chile team looks like a pack of pirahnhas. Date 28th June.
