In the mean time former Sri Lankan cricketer and commentator Russel Arnold tweets this:

"Bangladesh play their Q/F in Melbourne and then their S/F would be in Sydney #CWC15"

Haha. Russel Arnold should worry about which flight is SL going to tak home after the QF since SA would be tough to beat.

Also feel a tad bit pity for PAK. After qualifying finally against all odds, they end up playing Australia in the QF. That is going to be a "LOL" match.

I am ready to bet that both SLvSA and Aus v Pak QFs will be highly competitive and would be least surprised if SA loses as they have yet to win a knockout match in WC even though its an irony that they were the first team to win the first ever hardcore knockout tournament in 1998 i.e. ICC Champions Trophy.
Similarly if Pak defeats Aus I would be least surprised as I read somewhere that Aussies have hitters in their team and not batsmen so they will be put to real test against quality Pak bowlers. If Pak bats first I feel they have more chance of winning.
My worst fears are that if Pak reaches SF and defeats India, then R.Balki would be the most hated person in India for his Mauka Mauka Ad series. It will be stuff of a legend. At the same time I am pretty confident that we can easily overcome Pakistan but one bad day and its all over.
One interesting stat is that if Ind or NZ win this cup, they will do it by remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament and even if rain spoils any of their match, they will automatically move to next round IIRC.

AFAIK only chance of Ind vs Pak match in current world cup is if both of them reach into the finals, current equation doesn't indicate that they can fight in SF. Correct me if I am wrong.

Here is current scenario:

Just check Wikipedia page on WC 2015.

It seems you didn't read the rules about host team matches which were first put in place in the WC2011.

Is this Wiki page about the 2015 Knockout rounds wrong?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Cr...knockout_stage

Why is this confusion?

Don't know about Wikippedia but here is what ICC says on it:

1st Semi Final: *If New Zealand qualifies for the semi-finals they will play in this match unless they play Australia, in which case the team finishing higher in the pools has home ground advantage.

2nd Semi Final: *If Australia qualifies for the semi-finals they will play in this match unless they play New Zealand, in which case the team finishing higher in the pools has home ground advantage.

So how does this equation work to make a match between Ind vs Pak possible before finals?

So, India will beat Bangladesh is a given. But, if Pakistan beats aussies then its gonna be a india/Pak sf.. Is that right?

The first Semi is between the winners of QF 1 and QF 4 and second is between winners of QF 2 and QF 3.

Sir dropped catches are a part and parcel of the game, there are times when a batsmen gets out because of one wrong click that the umpire hears, so we shouldn't take anything away from Dhoni and Raina and Team India, they are in good form for sure!

They call the South Africans chokers for a reason, they crack under pressure and it has already started to show up, but if they win the toss and bat first, they have a fair chance of winning, specially if deVilliers has a good day, god save the Lankans, the Lankan bowling line up is nothing to talk about and 2 in form batsmen are not enough to chase down a 400+ run target.

Your last line anout the PAK-AUS game being a LOL match had me in splits!

I so hope it happens, even better if they clash in the finals (I dont know if the fixtures are designed that way), India has never lost to Pak in any World Cup match as we all know, the men in blue will give there 200% to keep that record intact!

Its pretty simple equation which goes like this,
In older times or prior to 2011 WC and also in other events incl Football, Hockey, etc. the QFs are played in such a way that the group toppers shall meet only in Finals, like the seeds in Tennis tourneys also. So Groupings in QFs matches shall be like :

A1 (Topper in Group A) v B4 (Weakest in Group B) so it is to ensure that the topper gets the advantage of facing the weakest team of other group, so this acts as a motivation to top the group.
B2 (Second Ranked in Group B) v A3 (Third in Group A)
So any one of the Teams i.e. A1 B2 A3 B4 will reach the finals.
and vice versa.

This rule is followed in all the tournaments where QFs are played irrespective of sport.

If you notice, it is followed here too.

Now the tricky part :
Since the last world cup when the match schedules were announced for QF fixtures it was not written as A1vB4; A3vB2 but it was written as TBCvTBC which means the match will always be played between A1vB4 but it will be played as first QF, second, third or fourth it will be confirmed later, why , because it was fixed that Aus will play third QF IRRESPECTIVE of their standing in the Group and NZ will play fourth QF irrespective of their standing in the group and which in turn will later be confirmed that the third QF will be between A1vB4, A2vB3, A3vB2 or A4vB1. This method is conceived to give the hosts advantage of playing in the home conditions and fairly so if their are more than one host. Similarly, if two hosts end up facing each other in any knockout match, then their standings in the group or ICC rankings before the start of the tournament shall be taken into account.
The venue for Finals is anyway fixed.

I hope it helps.

To put it simply the dates and venues are fixed in advance but it will the First, Second, Third or Fourth QF that shall be played will depend on host nation's performance.
By First, Second, Third and Fourth QF I mean older format where first QF was essentially played between A1vB4, Second between A2vB3, Third between B1vA4 & Fourth between B2vA3 but now no particular order is followed.

If you go further the First Semi-Final is played between winner for First QF and Second QF and the Second between the winner of Third QF and Fourth QF but here even that is not followed due to host nation's ranking, NZ will play last QF and First SF. They have mentioned it as winner of QF1 and QF4, had SA v SL was QF 2, then the SF line up would be winner of QF2vQF4.

So One Team in a group of (NZ, SL, SA & WI) and One team from the group of (IND, AUS, PAK, BAN) will meet in the final.

Looks like M/s Duckworth & Lewis had a hand in this too!

I think SL has got a good draw this time and have a decent chance to reach the finals (going by their opponents history in previous WCs). SA has never won a knockout match and if SL can bat first and then get Amla early then devilliers will not have company to win the match.
Then their most likely opponent would be New Zealand and they have the jinx of semifinals. So SL might end up playing their 3rd WC final in as many events.
