Haha. My gut feeling is that Australia will chase it down. This is the good part of chasing a low total. You know your target and there is hence no need to go for loose shots.

If a couple of wickets fall within 100 runs on board, then there is indeed such a possibility!

Match very interestingly poised. 67/3. This partnership might seal victory for the Aussies though.

Btw, any of you follow the "commentary" on cricinfo? I just love it. Very unbiased commentary too.

I sincerely hope so, but wait... Smith is still going strong. And then there's Watto and Maxwell and Haddin and Faulkner and even Johnson who can produce batting fireworks at will.
Dismiss Smith and later get Maxwell to fall cheaply, Pakistan (and India)should feel pretty good about their chances( of winning the quarter finals and semifinals respectively)

I do. Extremely good quality commentary that. I often switch of the tv and follow cricinfo, to be honest.

Smith holds the key. I don't think Watson, Maxwell, Faulkner are capable of playing a long innings to chase down this target.

BTW, amazing stuff from Misbah-Ul-Haq
First, he set attacking fields for the bowlers and bounced out the Oz captain. Then, when no one was willing to go and field at short leg, he put himself there. Respect

No way for an India vs Pakistan Semi's. It should be an easy target for Australia! I hope that the Australians play with the same tempo against India!

Exceptional stuff from Wahab Riaz. I can't stop being amazed how Pakistan, from the same sub-continent, seem to turn out top-drawer fast bowling talent generation-after-generation while nobody else seems able to (India, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh).

Funny thought but I think that Pak will 'want' to lose this match. I am sure they will not be very excited about the prospect of meeting India again in the World Cup! That too at the given stage and the consequences at home thereof

Yeah true that. Still remember watching the spectacular hunting pair - Waqar and Wasim. Ah true pacemen.

You may have said it in jest, but it's still really unfair to a bunch of extremely professional cricketers. If 'domestic consequences' were a deciding factor, Pakistan won't have a cricket team at all, given how even their greatest champions have suffered abuse but still continued to perform.

There's a really good BBC article with Misbah-ul-Haq about being Pakistan captain. The man's passion and professionalism in what's an obviously difficult post to hold, just shines through.

The silly cricket fan in me still wonders what would've happened if there was no partition. Imagine the combined 'all-star' cricket team we'd have had.

Yes, that was a light-hearted comment. Not meant to offend anyone.
Agree that Misbah has been one of the greatest unsung (& little unfortunate) hero of Pakistan team.

And in the meanwhile, Aus seems to be running away with the match. Very unlikely for them to lose from here.

Maxwell nearly holed out as well (to what can only be called a horrendous, or more aptly a 'T-20' shot), lucky the 3rd man fielder didn't pull off a spectacular catch.

Anyone else here think T-20 cricket is destroying 50-overs cricket? I'm all for batsmen playing with confidence, but some of the shot-selection and attitude these days is just disrespectful to good bowlers, and doesn't always work either. Most batsmen seem to be in a 'who can score with the most awkward shot' competition.

Hehehe, I wanted to bring up this topic but thought it might not be appropriate for the World Cup thread. No, this is become a sloggers game. The bowlers are there just to chuck the ball at a batsman who slogs it somewhere out of the ground. True, there is talent and all that required but I guess they should just replace bowlers with machines that throw out balls at various speeds and lengths.

I agree only to the extent that the bats should be standardised somehow. And so should be the ground size. And a bowler should be allowed to bowl as many overs as he wants.

If that is done, Godspeed to the batters who can play innovative awkward looking shots. It's upto the bowlers to stop 'em
