And Australia went on to win. Just as 64 of us predicted on this thread.

Interestingly, other than the usual news reports and stuff, there is nothing else happening around here to indicate the home team just won a World Cup. I guess to the fans here, the team did just as they were expected to, and nothing less. Had India won, it would have been a party, and what everyone would be talking about.

Maybe, NZ would have treasured it more.

Australia were simply too good a team in the end and played the perfect game on Sunday. I kind of had hoped for a better game than we got but well, the best team won.

Congrats to the Aussie fans.

As for our team is considered keep your chin up. I had expected the India Australia game to be a vritual final, and whoever won that game, would go on to win the WC.

1999 - Pak got blown away
2003 - Ind got blown away
2007 - SL got blown away
2015 - It was NZ's time to get blown away in the finals.

Australia as expected played their usual 'no freebies' policy and opposition crumbled. Aus went from strength to strength from each match during the tournament and in the final match they crushed the resistance. Australia is a team built on strong leadership. Now that their captain is retired in ODIs, it is to be seen how the new captain handles the team.

India's cameo in the tournament finally came to an end. With their mediocre bowling and their star batsman (No 3) awfully out of form in ODIs, they did exceedingly well to each the semi finals. They would be glad to bid goodbye to world cup and welcome IPL

South Africa did better than other knockout tournaments but they have to overcome the bad habit of trying to do something different in a big match, hoping that it will turn as masterstroke, which actually turns in to a disaster. They have to learn from Australia that in big match, stick to winning combination, don't mess with batting order, hold your nerves during fielding.

New Zealand played in their den and they were 'lions'. As soon as they were out of their den, they were mauled. May be next time they can consider playing in diverse condition to get correct assessment of themselves. BTW, McCullum going after Starc (the star bowler of the tournament) in the first over was bad tactic.

Pakistan is woefully out of match practice. Playing in their adopted country (UAE) is getting them no where. Unless international cricket is played in Pakistan, their state is not going to change. It is sad situation.

England selected test team for premier ODI tournament . For 3.5 years they bet on the wrong horse (Alastair Cook) and in the final moment they changed their horse, jockey and everybody else, hoping each one will handle themselves in the English spirit. Unfortunately cricket is team game and individual spirit didn't come into play. Going forward, ECB must allow their to players to play in IPL, Big bash, so that their players pick 'current' cricket skills.

Sri Lanka was heavily dependent on Sangakara. Now that he has retired, unless they produce star players, it is decline for them.

West Indies must figure out who takes the cricket field - either their players or their cricket board.

Ireland, Scotland, Zimbabwe, UAE, Afghanistan and Bangladesh must play 5-day test cricket among themselves to improve their cricketing skills. ICC can plan test championship among these countries and A-teams of test playing countries.

ICC World Cup XI is announced and I would have been surprised if any Indian player figured there.
