Default Any experiences with CouchSurfing.org?

Dear Team BHPians..as an avid traveller, have been reading with great interest use of service of a very novel, useful and interesting app by the name couchsurfing.org. How many of you have used this for your travel and what has been your experience? Also have you let a fellow member of couch surfing.org to make use of your local presence in any way? Please do share your experiences.
Also, have we thought of creating such an experience within Team BHP network?
Thanks

I have a friend in Mumbai who has hosted over 30 couchsurfers from 12 different countries in the last 18 months. Every time he has had a great experience with the strangers. All of them are in contact with him and he got featured in an Argentine news channel where one of the couchsurfers he hosted had an interview wherein he specifically spoke about my friend's hospitality and the lovely city of Mumbai.

Not like airbnb. Here you host people at your place for free and vice-versa.

Is it safe? To be hosted by and to host strangers?

Hi, as I understand, with the exception of few bad experiences, most people using couchsurfing.org appear to be happy to have been a host and to have hosted. Validation of members is also done by the platform, think for a nominal fee.
Have read some amazing experiences. Wanted to know the experiences of Team BHPians.

I doubt the danger will be any more than staying in a homestay. The site seems to have some sort of verification mechanism etc.

I have hosted a Belgian guy through couchsurfing.org for a week. I had communicated with him online before and somehow I felt a connect what with my broken French and his broken English. Now I have a local to host me for a trackday at Spa-Francochamps
