Absynthguzzler (Arun) is in KIMS (Minister Road, Secunderabad) and requires donors of O+ blood. He is in room no 5559.

He is suffering from dengue and was given 4 units of platelets around 1.00 am today, in spite of this his platelet count is only 25k and needs to be built up immediately.

Bblost and straightdrive are already on the way there.

I have been a blood donor since my college days. Blood Group AB+ve. Have just donated blood a week ago against which one unit can be taken. Anybody ends blood cab utilise that reserved unit.

Upon my posting the above, a flood of offers to donate platelets/blood came in. I also went through the poll attached to this thread and noted the people from Hyderabad who were O+ (there was no need to - they called themselves).

Hats off to straightdrive, bblost, kkr2kr2, mobike008, hyd-traveller (twice over!), zen91, huntrz, maverick79, hillram, MileCruncher, Ranjit (non-tbhp), Karthik (non-tbhp) and Sai Kiran (non-tbhp) for having responded spontaneously and instantly. Special credit goes to Pulsar56 for always being ready to act as a 'clearing house' and identify donors of the appropriate group from his various contacts, this is the second time I have seen him do this - way to go Pulsar. Suren181's management skills were on display as he ensured that there was at least one donor available each day of the week. Fortunately, we did not need to call upon them.

UPDATE: Absynthguzzler's body responded on Monday morning (after transfusion of 6 units of platelets over 3 days) and his platelet count went up to 44000. On seeing this all further transfusions and IV were stopped. By Tuesday morning the platelet count went up to 85000 whereupon, the Doctors decided to discharge him. Absynthguzzler went home yesterday. Today he reports that his platelet count has touched 200000. The virus seems to be on the retreat and Absynth is well on the way to recovery.

Mine is AB+

Somehow or the other I have missed every opportunity to donate blood. In the last instance on Wednesday the blood bank refused mine stating that they had more than adequate stock of AB+ blood and hence could not swap mine with an O+ unit (which we required).
