Default 42 @ 42

I'm 42. Time to act my age.
So I've decided to run the full marathon in the forthcoming Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on 21st January, 2007.
All 42.2 km of it. From VT to Bandra Reclamation and all the way back.

A professional athlete would take 2 hours 12 minutes.
By car this would take about 5 hours assuming normal Mumbai Traffic.
I hope to clock a time somewhere in-between.

Those of you who read my introductory post may have noted that I'm an avid runner. I've run many Half Marathons and done some pretty good times. But the Full Marathon is a whole new cup of tea.

I've specifically been training for this event since August using Hal Higdon's online intermediate 2 marathon program. This Hal guy ran a Full Marathon in 2 1/2 hours at the age of 58.

I currently run over 80 km a week. On Sundays, it's 32 km on the trot.

No it's not easy. Apart form jammed toe nails, blistered in-soles, aching pelvic muscles, skin burns and knocking knees, I've also had to sacrifice all forms of social life hitting the sack by 9.45 pm and waking up at 5 am.

Not to forget the expense of good quality running gear. Nike Air Max Moto shoes (I've been thru 3 pairs already in the last 6 months), Asics Dynamic Compression Running Shorts, Nike Dri Fit Singlets, Nike Dri Fit Socks and a Mode Heart Rate Monitor (must know what RPM I'm running at, mustn't I?)

But all this should not go in vain.

I'm running for a good cause. I'm raising funds for the Hindu Mission Hospital which is an approved NGO in Chennai that provides free treatment and care to the poor/needy. Please do visit their web site to understand what they do.

I shall be most grateful if members of Team BHP donate to this charitable cause. No amount is too small. Please do message me and let me know should you be so inclined.

For those of you in Mumbai. Do come to the race. It starts at 7.40 AM.

Happy 2007.

Nachu

Thanks dude. Schumy was still the best at 37. Warney at 38, McGrath at 37. Old age does matter.

Nachu, I am really in awe of people like you! Heck, I get beat after running 20 mins and a handful of kilometers on the treadmill (when I make it there that is!). Running 42.2km is an awesome accomplishment and I wish you the best.
