Oh man!! Are they not sparing anyone!!

Had to see this post right when i came to ask suggestions about a cycle. I normally have to ride in the deserted areas in the night on the way back from work. So if i consider a cycle then it has to be for weekends only!!

Today I decided to tackle a climb. Not a long one by any standards but for a newbie like me it was a challenge.

The Bicycles thread-narne.png

The section between the 3 mile mark and 4.5 mile mark is the Narne Road that connect the Gachibowli road to Jubilee Hills.

Bad decision of having lunch at an Andhra mess.
Less than half 1/2 km on the climb and I was getting my heart burn. The stomach acid trying to get out. Miserable feeling.

I could have turned back and taken it easy. But decided to stop. Hold on a bit and continue cycling.

Learnt a trick on climbing. Don't look forward. Look at the pedals or just a feet ahead of me. This kept my stomach in check and I managed to complete the climb.

Its such a simple thing. Bad fuel makes an engine jerk. Bad food decision plays havoc with the cycle.

Anyways. Completed the ride in decent time. 12 kms in around 35 mins.
My gps indicates I did a top speed of about 55kmph .

Feels good.

Hi Friends,

My first time on this thread. Please relocate if this is not the right place.

I am looking forward to start my Biking journey, so to speak... I wanted to know about Decathlon Bangalore. I'd been there today and the prices and range on display is delicious.

I know they work B2B model and I was not able to buy anything consequently. Now I do not have a business nor do I know anyone who can help me with some document like a VAT/Service Tax Papers etc. Could someone please tell me if there is anyway to get membership at Decathlon without having access to any business documents?

I know they sell through retail websites and stores but there is a substantial difference in price. Hence this request.

There are many bikers who are regular to this shop. Including me.

You can let ay of us know when you plan to visit.

Also, when you join Bangalore Mountaneering club (BMC), they use to offer this Decathalon membership for free to their members.

Not sure if they still have it. Try it out.

I can be there anyday ( with a days notice to call in Sick for work ). Can a member recommend me or help me get membership?
I tried BMC but that is subject to approval and also their page says "Decathlon membership is on hold for people registering from 16th May 2010 onwards."

So if anyone can help me get this membership, I'd be very appreciative

An UPDATE here guys.

Yesterday rode 122 + KM along with COCO (CycleOnCycleOnwards) group in Bangalore. 4 riders initially, one friend had to return halfway due to guests in family, so 3 of us finished the full ride in full glory. AVG Speed 17.6 kmph, MAX Speed 52.5 kmph - yesterday.

Place was Thally Village in TamilNadu also known as 'Little England'. Beautiful village thats it.

It was my second century plus ride, earlier I had done another 120 KM on my bike on 11th June 2011. Yesterday it was first century ride for the 2 others.

One guy had Hercules Hercules Roadeo Turner before and previously was not able to ride with us even until Sarjapur (less than 20 KM), he recently upgraded to Canondale SL4 (MTB - it was a JUMP, not upgrade) and he completed this 120 KM ride within few weeks of buying the new bike. Thats a very good example how the bikes help to ride effortlessly.

Route was: ECity - Sarjapur Rd - Sarjapur - Bagalur - Hosur - Thally - Anekal - Jigani - Ecity.

My Total ODO stands on 1600.78 KM, from April 2011 till date. I am riding almost daily for about 20 KM nowdays, week ends some more long distances.

There were pretty nasty climbs as well during yesterday's ride, Climb details as follows.

If your intention is to lose weight buy an MTB. A RR 5.0 or RR5.1 would be perfect.

BRILLIANT!!

I am hot on your tail now.

Mine stands at 1050 kms since June 3, 2011. I now take the longest route home. About 16 kms one way.

To add I am doing weekend trips of 20 odd kms one time. I just ride out mark 10 kms on my GPS hit that and I ride back. Last week I managed to do this 3 times in one day. Just like that.

Am 100+ myself. It does not matter.

Cannondale Q5

Also i need some inputs on:

I plot the route on dailymile. It accurate.
I also use my gps enabled phone(Asus P527) to save gpx files.

- What accessories is necessary?
Carrier, Helmet(mandatory), stand, lock

- Cycling shorts(paded) is it must?
I am a short distance cyclist. Max in a day is just 25 odd kms.
thanks
Answers inline.

But please note I am newbie cyclist myself. My exposure to cycling is very very limited.

@Zenster
If you own a flat and if apartment complex is registered as a society, your Society can apply for membership at Decathlon. As a society member, you will automatically become a member. Please check with your society secretary for registration certificate, list of members and round seal on true copies of all the documents.

I would suggest ACT110/ACT110 plus, they are light weight, have quick release wheel rims . Should cost you around 8-10k.Both are hybrid bikes good for city usage .If you plan to on on trails , you should consider MTB's
