I used to keep creating travel CDs earlier with the type of songs I love.

But nowadays keeps a usb stick with all mix. 1GB each for various genres.
So, I have something in store for me and for all the fellow passengers.

It has Ghazal collections of Ghulam Ali,Jagjit and many.
Then one folder with chart busters of bollywood, south indian films etc.
Some kishoreda,rafi,lataji,mukesh collections.
Few folders of western songs.
Then a big chunk of instrumentals (mainly Brian Silas and some south indian instrumental collections)

Rest,anything and everything.

On long drives,I love soothing musics or instrumentals.

Over the last 6 months one song which prominently keeps top of list is :

Smoke on the Water : The G3 experience.

Me and my 2 year old has got so much over it that on the weekend drive to Mysore
I might have played it 10 times one way and each time it was requested by my Kiddo!

Needless to say, While I am writing this, its playing in the background.

If I'm in a sing-along frame of mind, nothing beats Retro 80s/90s gold a-la Bon Jovi, MJ, Madonna et al.

For long windy drives, nothing can beat Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah/Lilac Wine

I'm hooked to this track! And on a long drive, it's just fantastic! If there is anything minutely close to Floyd, it has got to be this without doubt!

Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere But Not Here

Great thread guys found lots of good songs here to add to my playlist. My current favorites are Tool / A Perfect Circle. The lead singer of both the bands is the same guy and has an amazing voice. Lateralus, Vicarious are my favs by Tool and The Noose, The Outsider, 3 Libras by APC. APC is great to listen to in traffic just calms me down.

Mine too. +1 to that.

In addition - Enigma, Ghazals by Ghulam Ali, Frank Sinatra solos and Hindi melodies (vocal/instrumentals) on long drive.

Daily commute - I keep switching FM channels for whatever sounds good at the moment..

Cheers!

Depends on the time -

Early mornings - No second thought but just let the Radio station play the devotional songs.(Atleast the Sashti kavasam i say)

To office - Illayaraja hits

With wife - Deal of one song for her one song for me. Mostly new songs for her and illayaraja for me.

When alone - Mix from Rock, Classic rock, Hip hop, Chirs rock and some rap. Still Illayaraja is on the top of my list of songs.

Smile Re: Your favourite song while driving

Although on many occassion I feel music on Mumbai roads are a big distraction, cannot stop from switching on and flicking through FM channels and the occassional CD's

In mornings when driving to office its usually some devotional songs being played on 98.3FM, from office to home - its random FM channel selection. If nothing appeals switch over to CD with golden oldies.

When driving with family its always songs which my son enjoys (this keeps him quiet at the rear) and includes the recent "Sheila ka Jawani" suprisingly (althought this song irritates me to hell).

I am an oldie so mostly listen to Pink Floyd, Doors, Beatles, Queen and Malayalam and Hindi songs too.

If I am in a brain-jacked mood, I love Floyd and The End by Doors. Somehow it makes me see sound and hear colors
