guys,
i am planning to upgrade from my zen to a higher capacity car after the rains.
i am not able to decide between the palio 1.6gtx which wud be new one or a used vtec.
i will be doing a lot of mumbai mangalore drives and many other long drives .
so fuel consumption will be my top priority after performance.
what about the spares for the vtec.
HOW MUCH CAN I XPECT TO FOR A VTEC IN MUMBAI,MAYBE A 2-3 YEAR OLD ONE.
wat about the ikon 1.6.

Hi satya

With regards tp your choices of cars, here's the deal.

The 1.6 GTX should retail for around 2.5-4 lakhs, depending on age and mileage, specs, accessories installed etc. From a mileage point of view, expect the VTEC to do better than the GTX, and i am talking 10-20% atleast. The VTEC should cost you b/w 5-6 lakhs for a 2-3 year old one. Maintenance wise the Palio should be slightly cheaper but the difference really shouldn't be too much as far as spares are concerned.

If your really are in the market for a Rs. 5 lakh car, keep the new Petra as an option too. Its new, well loaded and at its price seems like a steal. And of course, there is nothing like a new car.

Happy purchasing.

Palio 1.6 is available, but on request only. You have to specifically place an order with the dealer is what is the news i've heard. Please confirm this with your dealer before you suffer any heartburn at my hands

As for the Ikon 1.6, look for post 2000 cars where significant changes have been made. You should get a decent 2001-2002 Ikon for around 4.25-4.75 lakhs.

But trust me, right now the Fiat Petra is a tempting proposition with the fully loaded version retailing at 4.75 lakhs ex-showroom Mumbai with that stonking 1.6 engine.

SpeedSatya,

If the "speed" in your nick has any meaning...shut your eyes and pick up a Honda City Vtec. Its lightning fast and that high-revving engine always...always brings a smile on my face. You will find yourself driving from point A to B for the drive...and not the destination. I feel it is the most reliable car in India and one that combines speed with practicality. C'mon, its also a 4 door sedan with a decent sized boot.

You should be able to pick up a year 2000 Vtec for 5 lacs. They are available in plentiful.

No ways dude....As Ajmat has found out, his Vtec is cheaper to service than even the 800. Repair costs are next to nothing, and sticking to Hondas recommended service schedules will find you shelling out no more than 1500 - 2000 average per service including the cost of oil.

GTX is available on request..just confirmed it yesterday..available in 25 days..price is something around 5.2-5.4..I also would suggest u to have a look at petra...At 5.14 on road & bombay registration its a very very interesting proposition if u can live with the dealers & their attitude..

i suggest you go for the petra
its fast , a new car , fully loaded and cheap
if u live in mumbai contact anuroop who have a few siena 1.6s on their hands - brand new but 2002 - 3 manufactured units - and are sellin them from 4.6 - 4.9 depending on version .
the best bet is the siena 1.6 el wwhich is a petra with another name and with the same features.
it is for around 4.6 on road in mumbai and if you have any change left over i suggest you spring for bigger and better tyres with the petra badges.
the VTEC is a good car but most of the secondhand ones that are available in your budget have clocked high mileage so you should be wary before buying one.

cheer and keep us updated as it should help other people decide.
cheers

My friend got a mid 2001 Honda city VTec heather mist color thane registered 31000 km done from the Iccibhan Honda dealership for RS 525000
including 6 month warranty and one free service done.......
He is geting a average of 11.5 in city with the aircon at 2 level......runnning is 40 km per day.

I would advice the Vtec.....dont go for Fiat ...coz resale value is pathetic....fuel cnsumption is another headache.

I don't think mileage will be such a problem with the Vtec. My Vtec which has done 37+ K kms actually feels better than when it was new.

The Honda guy once told me that "Honda" claims, the best period for the Vtec engine is between 50K and 100K kms.

With Honda, mileage is just a figure, the engine always stays young.

Regards...

yes..i agree with speed satya..
either a new baleno or a used Vtec...almost as powerful as the VTEC
even the baleno returns around 10.5 kmpl
costing 6 lacs on road thane registered. sheer value for money ....but put 14 inchers on it first.
