Definitely Ganguly was aggressive & we reached finals in 2003. And he was in good form too. During last 4 years he was dropped from the team due to non-performance and Dravid became the captain (remember those Ganguly jokes doing round). India did well under Dravid. Only against West Indies in West Indies, they did so badly that Ganguly was recalled. But Ganguly's form is nowhere near like was in 2003. In this WC, he struggled against Bangladesh, Bermuda & Sri Lanka. So what the point in handling over the responsibilities of the team to a person who is struggling for his form & against age?

PS: Dravid's captaincy isn't that deplorable. Though at times he was found wanting for ideas. For this WC, he packed his team with too many seniors. Seniors didn't bring the experince & maturity and gave their wickets away. They anyway weren't fit enough. This has brought the team's downfall.

Very few will agree with you!
Just check the India's performance in the last 1 - 2 years, since he has taken over Captain. Can you tell any series or tournaments India has won? Maybe one or two at home! India had to struggle to win the SA and WI Series at home!

The same applies to Dravid as well!

What a wonderful innings from Ponting after fall of Gilly, it was a treat to watch. Iam sure if ponting was not run-out, he would have scored a century today. Great Show boy.

Australia 234 for 5 into the 41st over. Hussey just out, but Hayden going great guns. WI had better get Hayden soon if they have any hopes of restricting the Aussies to less than 300.

Ok since captaincy of Indian cricket is being talked about, heres what Bcci propose to do.

The Indian Public is going to be made the next captain, all decisions are to be notified via sms[something like public ka poll.. which the reality shows use],the messages would be conveyed across to the players on the field via a giant screen to be put up on all venues india will play[easily affordable by bcci].

Sadly our cricket has just become nothing but a joke.

rahul, this is just bollywood stuff. are our cricketers that bad ??? how come we crucify them for one false step when we make so many mistakes & no one knows about it. There is something wrong somewhere.

Not just Tendulkar, but the entire Indian team plus the Indian public needs to watch the Australian batting. Not every team can boast of a player like Hayden. But it is the uncompromising Aussie attitude of settling for nothing less than 300+ that should be noted. Even when wickets were falling, the Aussies backed themselves and aimed high, and succeeded. Aiming high and falling short is understandable, only supermen can always succeed. But there is nothing worse than aiming for a mediocre total so that one can get a personal 50 off 80 deliveries, thereby ensuring the team's defeat.

Have you ever thought that the reason they back themselves is because they know that even if they get out and end up losing ... Thousands of ppl arnt ready to demolish their houses and terrorise their families !!! Pressure like this can create a lot of mistakes ......

So lets just chill ... as for Sachin watching their innings and stuff --- lets go back a bit and remind ourselves of the time when he literally ended Shane Warnes career in the test series followed by a thrashing in Sharjah , that was Tendu's days , today is Haydens days -- SO BIG DEAL ????

Watch the WC , but dont stick to comparing everything to our Men in Blue , just get over it !!! They had a bad run .. SIMPLE -- and they have been terrorised plenty for it . Its time to bopunce back and WE SHALL and then hide coz Ill open this very thread all over again

As for the Hayden innings today .... I lost 500 bucks coz I was syre he was gonna hit the 200 mark !! Sweet , well paced innings .... but they still won't win the WC .

Well the reverse holds true. The pressure ensures that they earn millions of dollars, something I'm sure the Aussies would love to do. And this demolishing their houses has started only because we haven't won a major series since I-dunno-when or won a series abroad since I-dunno-when. Not that I support it.

Khaadu, when someone is paid millions of dollars, they are expected to PERFORM. WITHOUT ANY EXCUSES. No this-was-a-bad-day, I-am-not-in-form BCCI bullcrap. That's how Michael Jordan has 6 NBA championship rings and Ferrari has 5 F1 world championships. The principle of accountability is something that the BCCI club team and its die-hard fans cannot comprehend.

So then why start expecting them to all of a sudden ..... ??? And why dont we see the same public venting ire on the houses of ppl they voted for and that *** starts stuffing his pocket with their money .... As for winning and losing , it takes years to develop stuff at the grass root in our country and winning abroad and stuff can only happen over a period of time . The Aussies and their winning habit that you keep talking about also didnthappen from day one -- it took years !!!! We gotta learn and move on ...

What about 100 other players who were also paid millions in that same era ... was it possible for them all to win ??? And then Ferrari lost , inspite of haviong the same guy behind the drivers seat to another guy from another team -- I wonder how that happened ???? Accountability in sports is fine to an extent but ... not to the extent you mentioning .....

True. Maybe if cricket in India was governed by some enthusiasts and some professionals, instead of idiot politicians and bureaucrats, we'd be getting somewhere. Someone please tell me how Niranjan Shah got into the BCCI. Or that other joker, Jayawant Lele or something.
